A leading art gallery is facing a furious backlash after taking down a Pre-Raphaelite masterpiece in a bid to 'provoke debate'. Manchester Art Gallery has temporarily removed John William Waterhouse's Hylas and the Nymphs in an attempt to rethink historical artwork that 'presents the female body as either a 'passive decorative form' or a 'femme fatale'.'

No, these women appear to be attractive. Actually, they’re probably one of the PRB’s favorite models, and they were largely prostitutes. Oh, wait...

His former house was, alas, damaged or perhaps destroyed during the Blitz; reportedly his grand piano which was “defaced” by dozens of autographs by his famous guests and patrons, definitely did not survive the bombings.
Odd how his work fell off the map for decades — as you’re no doubt aware, TV’s Allen Funt (”Candid Camera”) nearly singlehandedly revived interest in Alma-Tadema, when he ran across “The Finding of Moses”, which had been thrown out as trash at least twice during the 20th century, but recently sold at auction for $36 million.

If they made the threats in person, but that would mean they’d have been in the museum, which isn’t likely (unless there was jihad training in one of their conference rooms). And they probably wouldn’t be able to write a threatening note...

Imagine if they did that painting today. All those girls would be covered in tattoos and piercings.

The models (see that pic Daffynition posted) -- most emphatically including Jane Burden Morris -- were always portrayed as ideal beauty, so a few piercings and tattoos would be omitted, or might be increased, depending on the artist's fetish. :^) Dante G Rossetti had a serious substance abuse problem.
