President Donald Trump said many words during his hour and 20 minute long State of the Union address Tuesday evening, but he did not mention women once.
Trumps first year in office was a landmark year for women, as the #MeToo and Times Up movements shaped political and popular culture. Multiple elected and appointed officials were forced to resign after admitting to sexual harassment and assault, and more women than ever will run for office in 2018.
The president, meanwhile, made several attempts to limit access to reproductive care, refused to call himself a feminist and was accused of cheating on his wife with adult film star Stephanie Gregory Clifford, also known as Stormy Daniels. Trump's annual average approval rating for his first year in office was only 33 percent among women, compared with 45 percent among men.
But its not just Trump: Republicans also have a female problem.
According to recent polling, women favor Democrats over Republicans in the November midterm elections by 16 points, while men support both parties at parity. Such data indicates that Trump "is not likely to be much help in rallying women to support Republicans in the upcoming midterm elections," said Gallup's Megan Brenan.
Ignoring womens issues during the most important policy-shaping speech of the year doesnt help. Trump only used the term woman once, while telling the story of a homeless woman who was found pregnant and injecting heroin.
We know where we stand in Trump's vision of our union, tweeted the National Women's Law Center after his speech.

Yeah, he’ll never get elected President with that kind of omission...
:)
You mean he didn’t mention liberal women.
Plus there was that time he split an infinitive ...
I didn’t know Wamens were not, Americans, Citizens, American Dreamers....
Thanks Liberals, you just clarified how you feel about women.
He mentioned two teen girls that were murdered by a street gang.
Too broad of a description for this low level thinker. Everyone needs to be in their own little box...blacks over there, gays over here, trannies to the right, Asians to the left. Jews and white guys take a hike.
Why even write a piece like this? What is the purpose? Does this pearl-clutcher think only women matter?
Good Lord these people get dumber by the minute!
She obviously doesnt realize that the President honored several brave men and women last night. They were seated in the gallery with the First Lady last night.
As opposed to Hillary...who does nothing but talk about women...all while enabling sexual predators that abuse women.
So, can she name a goal he mentioned that would benefit men only?
I am a woman and I heard goals that would benefit ALL Americans equally, as a matter of fact.
Isn’t that what women have been demanding?
In other words, he eschewed the politics of division. That would make him ... wait for it ... a UNITER.
She’s nuts, and a liar.
Trump singled out a female Coastguard member for saving lives.
He also brought up the young ladies murdered by MS 13 thugs and their families.
He also pointed out a couple for adopting a child.
Were these not women?
As if women are the only gender that Hollyweird has ruined.
Which is precisely why the founding fathers did not want women to have the right to vote.
I am a woman and I understand their reasoning perfectly, especially after watching all three of my sisters vote for Bill Clinton based on his looks alone.
Since the ‘Rats are now the Party of the Non-Working Class, they should get Maynard G. Krebs for their spokes-person.
He didn’t mention mens issues either.
Her other problem is she writes for NewsWEAK.
Similarly, Trump has been called a "white nationalist" by his enemies even though to my knowledge he has never once used the term "white people" or "white Americans" in any speech or interview.
In contrast, Democrats can't seem to stop talking about anything except "black people" or "Hispanic people." They're the ones who turned political issues into racial ones, and then project the same onto their opponents. The same applies to the "no mention of women" BS.
What is this twit smoking? The President mentioned women multiple times, starting with the First Lady. He mentioned multiple mothers among the invited guests. He pointed out the achievements of a female Coast Guard member. Etc.
