A creepy life-like robot called Erica is set to become a TV news anchor in Japan. The humanoid. which has one of the most advanced artificial speech systems in the world, will take up her new role in April. According to her creator Hiroshi Ishiguro, the droid is warm and caring, and may soon have an 'independent consciousness'.

I can picture a time in the not so distant future (25 years or so) when these things will replace humans at most menial jobs. Picture stopping into a late night convenience store and find it ran by several of these robots. (Shudder...) I think I would get out of there quick!

What looks creepy...or at least very robotic...is the fact that she can pronounce the letters ‘P’ and ‘M’ without her lips coming together and touching.

The eyes are pretty lifelike, but the movement of the human mouth is apparently just about impossible to duplicate. And that hair looks like the cheapest wig from the costume store.

Liberals deride Japan as the ‘land without immigration’ that is ‘aging’ and ‘dying’. In reality Japan is leading the world in all automation technologies, including humanoid robots (Ishigori) and factory robots (Fanuc Inc.). They are rich and prosperous and don’t need to import scummy, unskilled 3rd world welfare scum and neither do we.
