LODESTAR FIREARMS IS DEVELOPING A NEW SMART GUN CHAMBERED IN 9MM THAT IT HOPES WILL GAIN WIDESPREAD ACCEPTANCE AMONG AMERICANS.
A new smart gun company says its pistol will serve as the gateway to mass acceptance of smart guns in the United States.
According to The Trace, LodeStar Firearms based out of Philadelphia is in development on a smart gun chambered in 9mm and featuring radio frequency identification (RFID) tech which will ward off hackers. The MSRP on the gun will be about $750 and the goal is to have it available in 2019. The pistol is designed by Ernst Mauch, a former Heckler & Koch engineer who previously worked for Armatix but left after disagreeing with the way that company developed and marketed its iP1 pistol.
The already-controversial iP1 came under intense criticism last year when a hacker demonstrated that he was able to bypass the security system of the gunwhich involves firing when paired with an accompanying RFID wrist watchto make it fire a number of different ways, including using $15 worth of magnets.
That wont happen with LodeStars gun, says CEO Gareth Glaser.
The smart gun will have a non-magnetic lock and fire only when its within three or four inches of a chip, which would make it harder for the gun to be interfered with, Glaser claims.
In an interview with NBC Philadelphia, Glaser refers to the chip as a token which would be placed in a watch, or a ring, in a bracelet, or quite possibly implanted right here between your thumb and forefinger, Glaser said.

Call me a Luddite, but I’ll stick with a 1911 in .45 ACP.
will it survive an EMP?
Same as my computers and cars. The dumber the better. In fact, I’ve had girlfriends who were the same. No, they were not blondes.
Oh, come on now, we're talking the smartest of smart weapons engineers here.</sarc>
Boycott them into bankruptcy. “Smart” guns are a direct threat to the 2nd Amendment.
Can it be REMOTELY fired?
Like when in the safe, or end table, or in someone’s holster?
Guh bye...
And then when the US government decides it wants to remotely brick everyone of these, you will be left naked.
Ah, no thanks.
Too bad there are 500 million of the not-so-smart guns in American houses.(”/s”)
Maybe you only thought they weren’t blondes? Maybe they were aspiring AIs?
(Blondes dyed brunette)
Switched over to 40S&W for a while instead of refilling my 45 target ammo.
After a dozen trips to the range, brought out some fresh boxes of 45...
Could swear I could see those hunks of lead flying down range.
The Beta testing for this firearm should be done by the security details of blue state and blue city politicians.
Crazy talk.
I’ve dated blondes and they were smart (most, not some). Not the “excuse me Sir, it says SEX on the employment form, does this mean sex with you or myself?” kind of blonde ;)
Didn’t see your post and responded similarly. I’ll bet these smart guns could be remotely bricked. So, when someone buys one of these smart guns, fills out a Form 4473 with the smart firearm’s serial number, BOOM now the government can shut down individuals or whole groups of people’s guns. Just get a court order (FISA anyone) and Jerry Brown or any lefty can remotely brick your weapon.
And what if there is civil unrest and the government orders all or certain smart guns to be rendered unusable... and they don’t tell anyone. No you have someone who is potentially carrying a smart gun around that the government has disabled and the carrier doesn’t even know it! Pretty convenient way to execute someone by having them pull their concealed carry smart gun in a life-or-death situation only to discover it has been shut down, and now you are dead.
>Good luck with your eventual bankruptcy.
Bankruptcy? The (R)N(C) and (D) will be falling over themselves to throw as much taxpayer $$$ at ‘em as possible.
Another instance of ‘fattest “broke” fat-cats’
