It was just announced on FOX Business that Vince McMahon will renew a football league called the XFL which will compete with the NFL. The XFL League will be "family friendly" and require ALL players to stand for the National Anthem or be thrown out.
I am excited about this, and definetly will be an XFL fan. I no longer watch or buy tickets for NFL games. The XFL is exactly what I am looking for.
End the NFL monopoly! No more special favors from Government!
television???
Oh yeah. I remember what that was. That was that thing that people used to watch in the 20th century before computers and youtube and netflix and vlogs and streaming video.
I wonder if Vince is working with DVD and VHS vendors to make sure he has a good way of distributing his end of the season highlight reel films.
But the WWE was more popular in 2001 than it is now. Wrestling fans watched it. It got not ratings.
If McMahon wants to play in the fall he’ll try and get a television contract. Likely he’ll be rejected by ABC/ESPN, NBC, CBS and FOX because all four have contracts with the NFL.
Sounds like an antitrust lawsuit to me. Maybe he can get a better jury than Trump and walk away with more than three dollars.
Declining market. Tastes change.
I think this is more of a publicity stunt than anything. Maybe he can shake down the NFL for a payoff or something.
If he is going to do it, he may as well go in the fall and actually compete with the NFL. As someone else said, his target market MUST be former NFL fans. There is not enough market to try to attract a new fan base (IMO).
I should have read your comment before posting. My thoughts too.
They have to bring back “He Hate Me” in some manner.
As opposed to, say, wheelchair football?
I’d rather the big sponsors get behind the lingerie football league. Now that is nice to watch!
If there’s a team in Indiana, it needs to be called the Hossier Daddies.
Roller derby is making a big comeback. I found that interesting. I hope the idea for an alternative to the NFL gets plenty of traction.
I would be so all over this league. NFL castoffs and almost-NFLers, who want to play; they'd lay it all on the field
The league needs to get a long term TV contract to survive.
Another league competing against the NFL for TV money might make things interesting.
“Id rather the big sponsors get behind the lingerie football league. Now that is nice to watch!”
Is the lingerie football league still around?
I remember they had a team in Baltimore.
If they only ran it like WWE. The XFLe could be like Wrestling with stupid refs that never see the bad guy being bad and fake fights.
Fake fights in movies have way more action than the waltzes that many heavyweight fights turn into. Could be a huge success.
Didn't work first time.
“The XFL is exactly what I am looking for.”
If it’s on broadcast I’ll watch it.
Refuse to have cable or satellite, can’t justify paying to watch commercials.
