WASHINGTON — President Trump ordered the firing last June of Robert S. Mueller III, the special counsel overseeing the Russia investigation, according to four people told of the matter, but ultimately backed down after the White House counsel threatened to resign rather than carry out the directive.
The West Wing confrontation marks the first time Mr. Trump is known to have tried to fire the special counsel. Mr. Mueller learned about the episode in recent months as his investigators interviewed current and former senior White House officials in his inquiry into whether the president obstructed justice.
Amid the first wave of news media reports that Mr. Mueller was examining a possible obstruction case, the president began to argue that Mr. Mueller had three conflicts of interest that disqualified him from overseeing the investigation, two of the people said.

This story, like many in the recent past, came from the top... whomever that may be. Whomever is controlling Mueller I suppose... the Clinton/Obama/DeepState folks.
Meanwhile, what they don't want folks reading about tonight is Trump's first day in Davos. It isn't turning out like the MSM had hoped.
Absolutely. The Clinton News Network (CNN) and MSDNC are already on overdrive. But logically, the claim falls apart. The headline screams "Trump ordered Mueller fired!!!" Yet, if Trump had actually ordered Mueller fired, then someone would have been fired. If not Mueller, then Rosenstein, or Sessions, who Mueller actually reports to, and would actually be the ones who have to fire him, since Mueller is not a direct Trump appointee, but Rosenstein and Sessions are, and can be instantly fired by the President.
Nowhere in that chain of command is the "White House Counsel" which is the other part of the headline. So even IF the White House Counsel had objected, they wouldn't have been able to stop the firing(s) had Trump actually ordered them. The words "ordered" and "fired" are clearly past tense, and White House Counsel therefore had no legal way of stopping them, had they actually been directed.
So the headline, if nothing else, is fake news. Which makes it ripe to be presented on the morning news, per your point. The silver lining is that the article actually does cover some of the reasons why Mueller was inappropriately appointed as special counsel. That won't be carried in tomorrow morning's headlines, but it could actually continue to nag Mueller going forward, if not ultimately be some of the reasons to lead to his ouster.

But I don’t doubt that Trump considered firing Mueller. He probably considers it every day. I know I would.
He just hasn’t ordered it. At least not yet.
The liberal narrative of this story is that Trump would be obstructing justice by firing Mueller.
That narrative needs to be changed to one admitting that Mueller’s investigation is a scam, and Mueller is likely a dirty cop. Once that takes root with independents then Mueller could be fired, no matter who objected.

I can’t believe anything that comes from the NYT and I have doubts to how true this is.
It’s real easy to give advice... threaten to quit.. when it isn’t happening to you or to your family or to your sons.
I recall when juan williams was fired from the NPR networks and had not yet been offered a job with Fox... he spent the first day crying... on TV... he wailed and moaned... “woe is me”..family to support and no job... he went on for as long as his joblessness lasted and the embarrassment wore off... poor juan... it was the end of his world.
Then he was hired by Fox and so now he seems to not have any regard for anyone else’s plight .. he’s secure .. his world is okay.. so he can sit and condemn folks like our President and his family... and talk out of the left side of his mouth...

They can leak. They can lie. They can commit felonies and not lose jobs. They can attack the President of the United States and spy on him. They can investigate him with forged documents and lying claims. There seems to be no one to stop all this.
While Pres Trump is held accountable for anything he did not do and everything they want to falsely claim he did.
Just about the time I think there is a little sunlight on this dark tunnel, they shut off the light again... and congress is just as useless, so far, as they have ever been. Trump sets the example on how to fight and they just don’t get it!!
