Theres a place for Steven Spielberg, and apparently its on New Yorks Upper West Side in the 1950s. A casting call has gone out for a remake of West Side Story, written by Pulitzer Prize winner Tony Kushner, author of Spielbergs terrific Lincoln screenplay and, of course, Angels in America.
Its a pro-forma casting call because, in the end, the new West Side Story is going to need stars. Big names. And because of the setting and the time we are in, its going to need actual Puerto Ricans or Latinos for the parts of characters like Maria, Anita, and Bernardo. There will be no fudging this in 2018. The casting call says in capital letters: MUST BE ABLE TO SPEAK SPANISH.

Spielberg should remake “Jaws”.
Well I guess he needs another Oscar.

The remake of “The Flight of the Phoenix” was pretty good.
“West Side Story” does not remaking. The original was perfect, anything else will be a pale comparison. If they remake it I would suspect a social political plot. It would be horrible.
>>By cops in NYC? That does NOT work, isn’t in the original play, and would be stupid!
The whole idea of this remake is stupid
It’s gonna be another Flintstones - The Movie.
The original is my favorite John Astin movie.
Steven Spielberg will have a cult movie success on his hands (after the initial failure at the boxoffice).
Think of the call and response, jeers, and jokes the audience will be able to taunt the screen with.
Yes it is; beyond STUPID, senseless.
Just make sure everyone is of age if Spielberg is involved.
They already remade Psycho and even have made numerous sequels to it (before the remake).
So the white roles will go to Hispanics too?
Or are the fighting families/gangs both Hispanic this time around?
People who know the original won't go.
Movie musicals haven't been a draw in decades and that abomination, LA LA Whatever, was a sgtinker's stinker and unwatchable.
Millennials won't go.
So who "might" go.."Hispanics" ?
Mexicans hate the Puerto Ricans, as do the Cubans, and the Central Americans have less than NO attachment to the PRs, let alone this kind of movie.
Oh it'll get an Oscar, but that no longer really carries any weight, since it's just a joke award now.
I watched Gentle Ben as a youth and later saw Clint Howard in Rock And Roll High School.
And Jetsons was an update of Blondie (Jane Jetson was even voiced by the actress who’d played Blondie from the comic strips).
And Top Cat was based on Sgt. Bilko and Scooby-Doo was based upon Dobey Gillis.
He should just make a new sequel to Jaws.
Sometimes it really works; but there is absolutely NO talent, anywhere, today, so it doesn't!
And the last remake of WHAT PRICE HOLLYWOOD/A STAR IS BORN, with Streisand, was a horror; this next one ( I forget who is doing the "start turn, but DO remember that it's untalented nothing ) shall be even worse.
