There’s a place for Steven Spielberg, and apparently it’s on New York’s Upper West Side in the 1950s. A casting call has gone out for a remake of “West Side Story,” written by Pulitzer Prize winner Tony Kushner, author of Spielberg’s terrific “Lincoln” screenplay and, of course, “Angels in America.”
It’s a pro-forma casting call because, in the end, the new “West Side Story” is going to need stars. Big names. And because of the setting and the time we are in, it’s going to need actual Puerto Ricans or Latinos for the parts of characters like Maria, Anita, and Bernardo. There will be no fudging this in 2018. The casting call says in capital letters: MUST BE ABLE TO SPEAK SPANISH.

That does NOT work, isn't in the original play, and would be stupid!
I never liked this movie....actually never made it through and I suppose I tried a few times over the years. So boring. I would imagine they could do a good job with it if they update it some.
As far as redoing originals, it is certainly an epidemic. Murphy Brown is being remade now. Good grief that was a fantastic show for the first 5 years or so. Oh well I can’t believe Bergman would want to do it after having a stroke. We’ll see how it is.
Will and Grace regardless of our distaste of the show has been relatively successful and was awarded a renewal for 2018-2019 season.
Rosanne will be a big premier but how will it do for next episode is a question. The problem with Rosanne is that liberals now hate her for supporting Trump and Conservatives although appreciate the support for Trump think she’s a bit to liberal in social issues so this will be interesting how it survives. Plus it is beginning right in time for Daylight Savings which ALWAYS affects the 8 o’clock hour so we will have to see. The show is going to “The Middle’s” spot after it finishes so that may help.

Why not an All-Muslim cast?
Oh my gosh. The original movie was Hispanic. Why would they not keep with the original story line. They will have Jennifer Lopez, Mario Lopez, and Gina Rodrigues for those leads or they should if they want any eyeballs at all.
It should actually be blacks against Muslims or the MS 13ers, in order to to update it.
The Puerto Rican thing only worked, because during WW II, many Puerto Ricans came into NYC, to replace the men who were off fighting and because most came from very rural places, they didn't know how to use indoor plumbing, didn't understand about garbage pick up, so threw all manner of things off fire escapes. They also just didn't "get" how to live in a city and so, m any New Yorkers, of ALL races and ethnicities hated them.
Back then, there were still also "white" teen gangs ( but only just...that was pretty much the end of them ); today there are NONE!

Well, they did show Renee Russo’s Boobs in the remake.
The original is still my favorite, but I enjoyed the remake.
What was the last movie he thought up himself?

He has scouts to bring him properties, books and such, that look like promising films.
This one, though, is something he's been wanting to remake for some time.
I guess his team were too scared to try to talk him out of it.
Whatever Pierce Brosnan was, he wasn't that.
It is so embarrassing that FREEPERS of all people are so dang ignorate to this. How dang dumb do you have to be to think Puerto Ricans are illegals. I actually had a FREEPER say that those illegal Puerto Ricans in Florida better not vote in November. Stunningly stupid.
