In my view the biggest scandal is the difficulty of replacing the battery at all. You don't just remove the cover [even with the tiny little apple screws] pop out the old battery, pop in a new one, put the cover back on and you're good to go. Try looking at the procedure for replacing the batter for an iPHone 5s on IFIXIT. Even a skilled technician with all the tools is likely to break the phone in the process.
If folks knew, they would never touch another Apple product again. I know I won't. Steve Jobs original vision was simplicity. Well that is long long long gone.
