Maybe that’s he was talking about? That birds sing in morning?

Perhaps a bird sings when it’s free after it tells all it knows about its co-conspirators. Did they get one of the plotters to turn on the others?
... Maybe I have seen too many old detective movies, but I had the expression “sing like a canary” in my head when I first read the reference to a bird singing.
