A school district in Wisconsin is mulling over whether to remove the classic Harper Lee novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” from its high school curriculum after a parental complaint.
Parent Tujama Kameeta wants the Monona Grove School District in Monona, Wisconsin town to remove the novel due to the “48 racial slurs directed at African Americans in the book.”

This parent is missing the whole point of To Kill A Mockingbird if she thinks it’s racist. I would guarantee she hasn’t read the book. Same with Uncle Tom’s Cabin, which is roundly denounced. Uncle Tom was NOT subservient, he was godly and he sacrifices his life at the end to save others. Never once did he bow and scrape — he was presented as courageous in the extreme. And as for TKAMB...one of the greatest civil rights books ever written. Such ignorance!
This book is a classic. Needs to stay on the bookshelves.
The school officials need to tell this parent that it ain't going to happen.

What will they do with THAT BOOK by Joseph Conrad, or those short stories of the South Seas by Russell? Jack London used “the word” in several of his short stories, and the dog in THE DAM BUSTERS, (GASP! the Horror!). Then there is the cat’s name in THE RATS IN THE WALLS by Lovecraft!

Even people in the comments section who abhor this event are dumb! The brutal novel Wuthering Heights is a chick book? If we don’t get our educational system under control, this country is going to slip into 3rd world status within my lifetime.
