Serial stowaway Marilyn Hartman, 66, who has a history of flying without a passport or boarding pass, made it overseas before authorities realized she had taken the flight without credentials.

So that's what she looks like after all the years?
In the original Airport (movie) Helen Hayes played a part similar to this - she would stowaway on flights. Security was almost non-existent back then.
Since this mentally ill loser has no passport...don’t let her back in. Problem solved.
This woman is a heroine ( of sorts ) - making a mockery of tyrannical border controls which until 1915 only existed in dictatorships
I was thinking of that annoying character actor who was always saying dumb things to James Garner in those old Polaroid commercials.
I remember seeing that original airport movie when I was a kid back in 1970.
I think Helen Hayes won a best supporting actress Oscar for that role.

Back in the sixties, I knew several college kids who did that regularly to fly back home for holidays. You could also accompany passengers on board before the flight.
I actually enjoyed flying back in the 1960s and 1970s.
People would dress up. The airlines served meals. The stewardess were all good looking. It was a special event.
Today airlines are just Greyhounds without the class.

Why are you at FR?

Mariette Hartley?
CC
not a border control - rather a health screening - big difference
passports weee not required until 1915
because she did not fit a profile?
Prior to the 20th Century traveling was expensive and time consuming. Today, for about the cost of railway ticket from New York to Washington in 1915 dollars, you can travel from Lahore to New York. And because of the welfare state, immediately receive benefits. Just about every single person in Calcutta would hop on a plane to Los Angeles tomorrow, given the opportunity. Lahore, Madras, Puna, Kabul, Islamabad, Haiti, Hanoi, Laos, ... would be right behind them.
disagree
Also, Job prospects and wage growth are much higher in Pune than in Akron.
but we do need to eliminate the entire welfare state before returning to a free society.
If she had simply obtained a passport, she would have made it free to England.
In terms of travel, today’s world is smaller that than the 13 colonies in 1789, when the Constitution was ratified.
In terms of time and difficulty of communication, smaller then London of 1800.
