Stunning aerial pictures offer rare bird's-eye view of the American landscape

These are the stunning pictures that offer a rare bird's-eye view of the landscape across the United States.

Photographer Jassen Todorov snapped the aerial images of rivers, lakes and mountains to show a different angle to American life than skyscrapers and fast food outlets.

Some of the destinations that Mr Todorov has photographed from such a height include rock formations in Utah, the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Tiny Islands in Florida and Yosemite National Park.

He said: 'I have been exploring the US from above for the past four years - I love flying and photographing remote locations - most of them are not accessible by any other means.'

I am certain he is in Heaven.

And he has the best aerial view of any photographer. God rest his talented, beautiful soul.

Such magnificent images! I’m so glad you decided to run the photography ping list. Thanks again for posting these.

So many things here deserve comment but it’s late so a few will have to do. Aerials have always been among my favorites, combining abstract textures that eventually give way to realism after enough time spent figuring out what I’m looking at. At first I thought I was looking at images from a book I came across several years ago called “Earth From Above”. It turns out that it is available on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Earth-Above-Third-Yann-Arthus-Bertrand/dp/081095947X and is also part of a five episode series on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCcUoSYOnsM&t=65s

While all the pictures stand out I have to mention the foliage outside the window for it’s limited palette and subdued lighting and the fall leaves with the photographer’s absolutely marvelous bokeh. While I have done much the same using Photoshop I think she’s done an exemplary piece of work and, if this image was shot entirely in camera I’d love to know what lens she is using. After writing so far I went up to her gallery http://www.sarahfionahelme.com/ and she defiantly is a master of bokeh. Bravo !
