Few movie cars are as instantly recognizable as the 1968 Ford Mustang that Steve McQueen drove in "Bullitt." That Highland Green car known now simply as the Bullitt Mustang took on a 1969 Dodge Charger on the streets of San Francisco in one of the greatest car chases captured on film. For decades, the original car was thought to be lost. That wasn't entirely the case. It's simply been kept out of the public's eye. Now it returns to the spotlight, finally taking its rightful place next to its successor, the new 475-horsepower 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt.

The crime was what Dukes of Hazzard did to those Chargers.

Ugly Ugly Ugly Ugly Ugly!
Ford is going insane. Every good thing they have they insist on destroying through “change for the sake of change.”
Sad days ahead again.

And the Charger had magnetic hubcaps. Apparently if they fly off when going over bumps, they can seek out the car and reattach themselves.

That is ‘one’ of the Bullitt Mustangs... They probably went through more than a couple making that film.

I just watched that chase over the weekend...

The old one looks much cooler... And the sad part is, they could make it exactly the same.. So why not do that? Sure, it would take lots of metal, lots and lots of metal, but it would be awesome to and well worth it to have the same vehicle in spanking brand new condition.

There were two used for the movie, the “hero” which is the one in this article, and the “jumper”. The “jumper” was apparently found in a Mexico jumkyard in really rough shape.

2/3 of the cool of the car is the fact that McQueen drove it. That guy created cool.

Put a rebuilt 700 horsepower mill in there,paint...chrome, upholstery redone..big brakes, 6 speed transmission ( cant say tranny no more)
...and it would look better and badder than the new one..
