Yeah, that Royal Caribbean port. Been there. Fenced off from the rest of the island with 10-foot Hugh fences. To get to the top of the zip line shown in the photo, you are driven in jeeps with armed security (openly carrying scary black automatic weapons). When the ship arrives, Royal Caribbean rolls out piles of food and drink. As the passengers make their way around the various kiosks of freshly grilled food, laid out in obscene abundance, they can see starving Haitians on the other side of the fence, motioning with their hands to their mouths, begging for food.
That is easily the most depressing place I have ever been. I don’t know exactly whose fault it is that Haiti is a s-hole, but it is most definitely a s-hole, and the misery and suffering of the people is terrible. One thing I am sure of, is that bringing a bunch of them here does nothing to fix what is wrong THERE.
