CARSON (CBSLA) — A pet owner is probably telling his dog she’s an extra good girl Friday after a harrowing couple of days during which she went missing.

“Man, I had a heart attack!” Daniel Ashimine told CBS2 News. “I don’t care about my car, I really love my dog!”

Ashimine was reunited with Holly after she hitched a ride in his car, which was stolen as it was parked behind his restaurant Monday.

“My wife and I started driving all over the place looking for the dog,” said Ashimine. “The last couple of nights I didn’t get any rest.”

So easy for this kind of thing to happen. A dog is often the most important person in a human’s life. My late father weathered the deaths of his three siblings without too much visible trouble. However, when his 12 year old Beagle died, he was devastated and his visible grief and mourning lasted for months.

First time I ever saw my Dad cry was when our 14 year old boxer died.

I have three cats, two of which are not mine. This last week, (at or near zero degrees)I went to the store and while groceries I left the car door open to put the cart back and dragged a bag of potatos back. Shut the door, drove away and had a cat jump on my side. Pretty near shiite and almost drove off the road. When I got home I saw She/he had a tag on which I used to find the old lady who owned it. She was crying at the time she answered the door. I asked “is this yours?” She was jubilant and handed me a whole pan of brownies, almost hot.

But Thornton fell on his knees beside Buck. Head was against head, and he was shaking him back and forth. Those who hurried up heard him cursing Buck, and he cursed him long and fervently, and softly and lovingly.

"Gad, sir! Gad, sir!" spluttered the Skookum Bench king. "I'll give you a thousand for him, sir, a thousand, sir—twelve hundred, sir."

Thornton rose to his feet. His eyes were wet. The tears were streaming frankly down his cheeks. "Sir," he said to the Skookum Bench king, "no, sir. You can go to hell, sir. It's the best I can do for you, sir."

Buck seized Thornton's hand in his teeth. Thornton shook him back and forth. As though animated by a common impulse, the onlookers drew back to a respectful distance; nor were they again indiscreet enough to interrupt.

For more than a year and a half I've traveled across America with a small dog riding in my lap the entire way. She has seen 18 states, been to more landmarks and met more people than most humans. She's been the perfect little traveling companion.

Can't imagine doing all of that without her.

The part where he met up with his dog is some pretty shoddy writing. I kept reading it over wonder if I missed the part about how he found his dog. Nope- Not there. Just another writer who can’t write.

I can believe that. In a way pets are family members that don’t grow up and leave. They stick with us until the end.

I can sympathize with this gentleman.

One of my dogs has been missing since last Friday. I have cried every day since. I’m still aggressively searching and posting my dog’s info, but no luck. I just want to know my baby’s fate, even if it is bad news.

I’m sorry that your father had to experience that. Pets are family.
