For me, the whole thing high-lighted the beauty pageant aspect of figure skating.
If someone runs 400m faster than someone else, then they win. Not much debate about it.
If someone lifts more kg than someone else, then they win. Not much debate about it.
Skating? Sure, skill is involved. But the judges give the medals to the people they like. Trailer trash don’t get medals. Sweet and innocent gets the medals.
Figure skating is an athletic endeavor in which prizes are awarded in a highly subjective manner.
Just watched the US Olympic trials(the wife likes figure skating) and they hosed the best male skater. He was a little too “old” to be in the Olympics, had not been one of the favorites coming in, but out skated everybody. He’s not going to Korea, but a guy who fell three times and was one of the favorites is. It’s liking watching the Westminster Dog Show. The first night they tell you whose going to win and they almost always do.
