” I’m sure homo HIV AIDS research is roaring along full throttle.”

absolutely. after all, it’s only the older heterosexuals that get Alzheimers. they don’t care whether we die off.

i’m assuming that corporate AIDS/HIV research funding via government grants is still going strong?

“Of course-but this appears to be more about Pfizer’s profit margin than any desire they might have to find a cure for anything-the big money is in treating symptoms, not in cures.”

treating symptoms—correct. i wonder when they will ever find a definitive cure for cancer of any sort: one that doesn’t kill you first before the cancer does, or the treatment brings on another form of cancer or terminal illness that takes you away? it seems that chemo and radiation do so much damage to healthy tissue, that it is a miracle anyone survives those treatments. so many go into remission and then some sort of cancer comes roaring back to finish them off.

That is because chemotherapy literally kills the immune system-it is a tossup whether the person can get it back up and running properly before more cancer -or even a common cold can take them out permanently. Some of the new immunotherapy drugs sound almost as bad, attacking healthy organs and tissue like chemo-nasty. My dearest friend and coworker died 2 years ago of the side effects of chemo after he’d been in remission for brain cancer for several months-his immune system just shut down one day, as did part of his brain function so that his heart was not “told” to beat while he was asleep.

Well of course they won’t pursue a cure-once someone is cured, there is no need for those side effect laden drugs to treat symptoms-so they will keep researching addictive painkillers and other “treatments” for symptoms that can be prescribed forever-$$$$$$...

You're about pharmaceutical companies making a lot more money from treating chronic conditions than from curing acute conditions. The reason we're running short on new antibiotics is that there isn't much money in them: you take them for a week and you're done. In contrast, if you have diabetes or high blood pressure, you're taking medication for years or even decades. So as far as neurodegenerative diseases go, the pharmaceutical companies big "win" won't be a cure, but something to keep you alive as long as possible taking medications to treat the symptoms rather than the illness.

There are a number of herbal/naturopathic remedies for pretty much everything-and also eating less processed stuff, carbs and refined sugar and natural, unprocessed food instead of frankenfood is a good way to prevent a lot of problems, and it is safer and cheaper than big pharma’s drugs, too...

This is half true at best. I have no doubt that the preservatives processed food plays a part in many chronic illnesses. What I've seen no evidence of is any herbal remedies or the outright quackery of homeopathy doing a single bit of good for conditions like Alzheimer's or Parkinson's apart from placebo effects.

It’s called the gut biome. You’re going to read much more about it in the next few years. Big pharma is heading for a wall.

Well we all die, whether in great pain or none.

Additional time is often bought at severe cost. We live but we aren’t the same.

What to do is ultimately a spiritual question.

Being from a family of health nuts who were and still are ranchers, I can say that eating no processed food, bleached flour, sugar-and all meat and produce naturally grown/raised and remaining drug free has been beneficial to my family and others in rural areas like the one I live in now. From what I’ve seen, margarine, canned stuff loaded with salt, processed carbs and refined sugar-all the things that cause obesity, along with no exercise is what is making people sicker-I wouldn’t feed my pets most of the stuff people feed their kids and themselves.

In 3 generations no one in my family has had diabetes, or Alzheimer’s-an uncle of mine had prostate cancer, but he got it cured with one of the newer less invasive therapies. Our average lifespan-barring accident-is 86 or so for men, 92-95 for women-and we die at home and we don’t retire. We use natural /herbal remedies with good results-no quackery there-aside from the fact that if you have been drug free your whole life, you may well react badly to an unnatural substance like drugs-it has happened in the family several times-twice with death being the result of the “most common” side effects.

But I do think keeping a healthy lifestyle is important, too-since no one has had Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s, I can’t address that in particular-I’ve only researched it, just like anyone else can do. I reserve my judgement on what I don’t have 1sthand knowledge of.

The antibiotic situation is indeed beyond scary-and it isn’t like some docs haven’t saying this was going to happen for as long as I can remember-nobody wanted to listen, and many people appear to be screwed because of that...

Anyone who invents a cure for Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s is going to be a multi billionaire. I can’t believe anyone seriously thinks there is “no money in finding a cure for anything. Just for ongoing treatments.”

Dude If I had that formula in my hand I’d have it made. Who on this thread would give it to someone else? “ Nope, this is a money loser.” Really ???

If Pfizer’s out it means there is no reasonable possibility in the near enough future. Believe me they’d love to find the cure.

When Grandma was visiting me, she ran out of her doctor prescribed vitamins. By the time her new order arrived, two weeks had passed. I did notice a change in her brain activity during that time. It became more evident towards the end of the second week. That convinced me that supplements do work.

You do realize that many drugs are created because a natural substance works and they can’t make money on it, so they must turn it into drug.
My friend was into quite a lot of dementia. I got her some supplements and was giving them to her. She did amazingly much better.

She decided to go and spend time with her male friend at his house. I told it was wrong, because of the appearance of evil. She was sure it wasn’t wrong because they didn’t do anything and had separate rooms. I believe her completely.

Still she was there long enough so that she missed out on her supplements. When she got back she didn’t get into the habit of taking them again, some friends talked her out of taking them because you can’t trust them.

That was several months back and she is still doing so much better than she was doing before. Over time I think she may regress, which is too bad.

I gave her Curcumin (which cleans plaque out of the brain and reduces inflammation), best 3 times a day with food, DHA, and other things that are purported to be good for the brain. Some things are that can be taken are Uridine, which is fantastic, and also Phosphatidylserine which is amazing if one takes enough of it. The prescribed amount just isn’t enough to make a significant difference. There are other things that are really good, also.
