The post-Weinstein Golden Globes was an exercise in hypocrisy
NY Post ^ | Jan 08, 2018 | Maureen Callahan

And the award for ultimate hypocrisy goes to . . . the Hollywood class of 2018.

This year’s Golden Globes were meant to be a defiant, vibrant celebration of a post-Weinstein industry, an awards ceremony about so much more than meaningless awards. We were promised a reckoning, the leveling of a male-dominated industry that institutionalized the rape, abuse and harassment of women for decades.

Like so much Hollywood product, advance buzz was greatly exaggerated. Not one actor or actress, on the red carpet or on stage, made direct reference to their industry’s greatest monster — the one they boast of slaying yet still want to appease.

Host Seth Meyers, in his opening monologue, was the only person in the room to mention him by name.

“Harvey Weinstein can’t be here tonight because, well, I’ve heard rumors that he’s crazy and difficult to work with,” Meyers said. “But don’t worry — he’ll be back in 20 years when he becomes the first person ever booed during the ‘In Memoriam’ segment.”

And how did these brave, crusading, black-garbed, pin-wearing celebrities respond? They booed.

Same when Meyers made a crack about the disgraced Kevin Spacey fumbling a Southern accent. “Oh, is that too mean?” Meyers asked incredulously. “To Kevin Spacey?”

Even a tame Woody Allen joke fell flat. It seems there’s no sexual predator who still doesn’t get Hollywood’s sympathy.

Yet many of the night’s honorees spoke like leaders of a revolution.

“May we teach our children that speaking out without fear of retribution is our culture’s new North Star,” said Laura Dern. She, like several other stars, brought along other female activists, apparently to remind us that Hollywood’s not the only cesspool.

It was insane that they appeared to feel Seth was too hard on Woody Allen, Harvey Weinstein, and Kevin Spacey. Either you black wearing hypocrites trash the rapists or you are still aiding and abetting them.

Seth WAS the first host “dog” shot into space. He had no choice but to go hard against the actual pervs. And in hitting them, he spared Trump a great deal from being the butt of every joke. But slamming these people’s last year’s gods hit their little tender nerves. Harvey and Spacey were THERE last year, and worshipped. And this year they are the butt of jokes, treated worse than TRUMP, the one they all despise rotely as they have been taught.

They are such slavish, unoriginal followers, all, slobbering all over Oprah, etc. They have no problem with pedo Spielberg, with phony lying feminists like Sarandon and Streep.

How many molesters and pervs were still sitting there, in high studio positions?

I did not know that. Makes my point all the more.

It is like they are singing out, “We are Hollywood. We are whores who support anyone who can give us money and fame no matter what they do. Unless they get caught, where we will trash THAT perv, but still worship all the rest of them until they each get busted.”

Clapping for an admitted rapist of a very classic Hollywood victim til the end (is there more of one than poor Natalie Wood)? I don’t care if he’s 200 years old. I was a bit offended they dragged him out there, but I hadn’t heard this rape story. Ghastly.

Kids wore Obama shirts all the time when he was president. No one in LA could send their child to school in a President Trump shirt.

Never thought Hollywood would go so far as ‘celebrate’ THEIR dirty laundry in full view of the audience....who do they think they’re kidding!

I’ll back them when they go after all ‘the women’ who DID go along to get along in their careers. If ‘women’ stopped doing that it would end. Blame for the state of affairs is other women who play their game.

Meyers should've gone Negin on those booers. Administer Lucille on those effin creeps.

Death . . . . to hollowwood!

An executive at MGM exposed himself to Shirley Temple when she was underage. It goes back to the very beginning. Look at the types who came out of Vaudeville who first made Hollywood famous.

With the hints that q anon is dropping, a lot of the deep state -- especially hollowood -- ain't gonna survive the upcomming Saudi-style purge.

And good riddance, too.

Too funny. Selma Hayek!!!! Casting couch queen and billionaire’s wife. Is that Ashley Judd or someone else with bad plastic surgery? These women represent the worst of the female of the human species. Well, with a few exceptions.

I did hear from someone who watched the show, it appears oprah will be running for president?

That would be a hoot and a half. There would be very few left. And, I doubt it was all “go along to get along”. I imagine there were plenty of offers.
People like Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Hudson, Laura Dern, Jennifer Anniston, Dakota Johnson (irony, I know), Angelina Jolie and so many others, never had to worry about being pressured. They have powerful people in their corners.
That is why the Mira Sorvino story is weird.
Some actors/actresses may get a kick out of the power play too. Who is to say?
Hollywood is full of hypocrites, as are many places. Hearing Melissa Gilbert say that Polanski’s rape victim was on her mother not the assailant opened my eyes to how delusional these people are. It’s on a youtube video where they were talking about Polanski on the View (blech!)
Such a different time. Hitchcock was known for his type. People dealt with it. Word got out, actresses prepared or declined or whatever. I know there are more. I just enjoy his work. I do not think he is a god.

The bottom line is that none of these people care one whit about anyone being harassed, assaulted, insulted, intimidated or anything close. They want to be included in the “cool kids” club.

Cut the cord, ignore the movies and hollyweird twits evaporate.

She, like several other stars, brought along other female activists, apparently to remind us that Hollywood’s not the only cesspool.

It was good to see female activist Tonya Harding on the red carpet. Nancy Kerrigan, I assume, watched from home.

>Like most big stories these days, #MeToo and its predicate incidents burned white hot in the media for a few weeks and then flamed out. Welcome to the age of mass attention deficit disorder....

The witch hunt is over. Too bad, it would have destroyed the left from top to bottom.
