The post-Weinstein Golden Globes was an exercise in hypocrisy
NY Post ^ | Jan 08, 2018 | Maureen Callahan

And the award for ultimate hypocrisy goes to . . . the Hollywood class of 2018.

This year’s Golden Globes were meant to be a defiant, vibrant celebration of a post-Weinstein industry, an awards ceremony about so much more than meaningless awards. We were promised a reckoning, the leveling of a male-dominated industry that institutionalized the rape, abuse and harassment of women for decades.

Like so much Hollywood product, advance buzz was greatly exaggerated. Not one actor or actress, on the red carpet or on stage, made direct reference to their industry’s greatest monster — the one they boast of slaying yet still want to appease.

Host Seth Meyers, in his opening monologue, was the only person in the room to mention him by name.

“Harvey Weinstein can’t be here tonight because, well, I’ve heard rumors that he’s crazy and difficult to work with,” Meyers said. “But don’t worry — he’ll be back in 20 years when he becomes the first person ever booed during the ‘In Memoriam’ segment.”

And how did these brave, crusading, black-garbed, pin-wearing celebrities respond? They booed.

Same when Meyers made a crack about the disgraced Kevin Spacey fumbling a Southern accent. “Oh, is that too mean?” Meyers asked incredulously. “To Kevin Spacey?”

Even a tame Woody Allen joke fell flat. It seems there’s no sexual predator who still doesn’t get Hollywood’s sympathy.

Yet many of the night’s honorees spoke like leaders of a revolution.

“May we teach our children that speaking out without fear of retribution is our culture’s new North Star,” said Laura Dern. She, like several other stars, brought along other female activists, apparently to remind us that Hollywood’s not the only cesspool.

For most people the Golden Globes was knocked off of the radar screen by news over a silly book about President Trump. That's a good indicator on how far Hollywood has fallen down the relevancy scale.

Like most big stories these days, #MeToo and its predicate incidents burned white hot in the media for a few weeks and then flamed out. Welcome to the age of mass attention deficit disorder....

Hollywood has been filled with rapists, sex perverts, and their enablers since its inception. Women such as Meryl Creep and Orca Windbag can wear black and #MeToo badges, but it doesn’t make them any less culpable than the rest of the “entertainment” industry trash.

They always seem to blaze trails in search of new lows. I swear, in less than ten years I expect best picture go to a film about a pedophile love story.. oh wait, that already happened in 2000 with American Beauty.. with Kevin Spacey. Lol smh.

I'm not dissing the dead, because Kirk Douglas is still alive: In a book on Rebel Without a Cause, claim is that Kirk Douglas got Nalalie Wood alone, said, "I've never had a virgin", raped her, but she couldn't do anything about it.

The best part about Trump being President of the United States is that he’s driving the left-wing over the edge... Figuratively and literally because they are seriously looking to produce Opra, or some other lunatic who is even more left of center and socialistic than Obama, forward as their next candidate for the Presidency.... You gotta love it.

Guaranteed victory for Trump and another 4 years of guaranteed lunacy from the left.

I guess the actresses have signaled that they want things to go back the way they were. Well, they didn’t particularly like being abused, but it helped them get such great parts. Who wouldn’t want that!

Ironic that Douglas played the part of a rapist who assaults a young Jill Haworth in the WWII drama “In Harm’s Way.” Haworth herself was impregnated at least twice by her on again/off again bisexual lover Sal Mineo, and had an abortion each time. Hollywood is an unhealthy place for young aspiring actresses.

I have two nieces who are tremendously talented actresses and singers. Both wanted to act for a living, but they both decided they wanted babies and a family life. One of them still does local community theater and the other is the top parent stage volunteer for her kid’s school plays and does all the kid’s makeup. They are happy and have no regrets.

I inadvertently got stuck in a traffic jam caused by road closures due to this event.

Somehow they thought that terrorists might attack, when in fact the terrorists are probably smart enough to know that allowing this event to go forward does more damage to the Western World.

On one corner there were a bunch of women dressed like those in the Handmaid's Tale with some #MeToo-esque signage.

Once again evoking the movie that was based on a society more like Eastern Germany than a truly conservative and God-loving America.

OK. Who is Seth Meyers? Actually, who cares?

Laura Dern: Good actress. Wacky leftist

Re the “Golden Globes” awards. I though the “Golden Globes” referred to those found on the “Golden Fleece”. Baaa!!

Talking about “fleece”. The GGs may have been more like a Hollywood “fleece” job than an award ceremony. It was all the pretty/rich white liberals celebrating whatever.

I think that the “Emperors and Emperesses” of Hollywood have lost their “clothes” of sainthood and academic genius-ship, and stand naked as a jaybird re their honesty, intellectual prowess, for some - their sanity, and hypocrisy.

I can’t think of the last time I went to a first-run movie, and could care less. That is why God and man invented TV. Easier to turn on, look at, and turn off if it is crap.

So many good books to read, so little time, but working on it.

What a difference a year makes. Last year it was all-out assault on Trump (led by Meryl Streep). Now they’re eating their own.

Yeah, lets see a kid wear a “Trump” t-shirt in Hollywood High School.

Somewhere, upstream from culture but down-stream from sexuality, a dam has breached. But if there are no legal repercussions arising, and that looks to be mostly the case, then we only got the haha from the brouhaha.

I wouldn’t say that, not after the virtual crowning of Oprah Winfrey as the new Queen of Heaven. Her long-winded speech was pure drivel.

Douglas's sex life is one thing, and his Leftist politics are another; and just as bad.

It was he who brought Hollywood 10 screenwriter Dalton Trumbo out of the cold to write the screenplay for the Communist themed movie, "Spartacus", which in turn was based on a work by Marxist author Howard Fast. Thus he spat in the eye of the country which had rewarded him so handsomely.
