This University of Oxford Grad Feeds Herself on £5 a Week by Eating Food From the Dumpster

Josephine Liang, 25, is part of a growing community of "freegans," people who eat recently discarded food to reduce waste.

Liang used to shop regularly at the supermarket, then found a cheaper alternative by rummaging through bins, a decision that she says has lowered her weekly food bill to just £5 a week. Liang will wait until shops and cafes close, and then go through their bins to see what she can find. She is saving the money to go travelling.

Why am I just now discovering freeganism? It sounds totally cool and radical!

George Orwell already did this stunt long ago and wrote it up.

Just finished re-reading his "The Road to Wigan Pier," for the umpteenth time.

No where in it does he admit to eating garbage.

Are you perhaps thinking of a different one of his books?

Down and out in London and Paris. I don’t know if he actually fished through garbage bins, but it was pretty rough living.

Well, in Down and out in London and Paris he did recount how he had worked as a plongeur in Paris, so he may have eaten scraps off of the plates before he washed them.

Ben Franklin said:
“In wine there is wisdom, In beer there is freedom,
In water there is bacteria.”
 In a number of carefully controlled trials, scientists have demonstrated if we drink 1 litre of water each day, at  year’s end, we have absorbed more than 1 kilo of Escherichia coli, (E.. Coli) - bacteria found in feces.
In other words, we are consuming 1 kilo of poop annually.
 However, We do NOT run that risk when drinking wine, beer, rum, whiskey or other liquor because alcohol has to go through a purification process
of boiling, filtering and fermenting.
 Remember:
Water = Poop,
Wine = Health
Therefore, it’s better to drink wine and talk stupid,
 than to drink water and be full of sh**.

I’m doing this as a public service.

And you don’t have to dumpster-dive. You DO, however, have to go into Wal*Mart......

Not sure which is worse...

Some restaurants and grocery stores were doing that around here, just a few years ago. The reaction from the SJWs, and their ilk was just what you would expect.

The restaurants did it to avoid ruinous lawsuits, in the (inevitable) event a “binner” got food poisoning. The grocery stores were (and continue to) donating all their good, but slightly stale food to local food banks — so that only unsafe food was thrown into the dumpsters. That didn’t protect them from the wrath of the SJW.

Yeah, lol.

I go late at night, which works for me right now, very few folks.

BUT I have managed to wind up behind somebody with $200 of stuff in their cart or filling out the food-aid stuff; even very, very late at night (read that as very, very, very early a.m.).

Wait, is the Fiver per week just the gas expense to transport her to the dumpster? So confusing.
