A teenager in Florida is in a medically induced coma following a horrifying accident on New Years Eve.
Authorities tell WFOR that 14-year-old Layne Chesney suffered third-degree burns across most of her body while roasting marshmallows at a friends house.
My daughter has sustained burns over 95 percent of her body, Leigh Chesney, Laynes mother, told WFOR. She has suffered a lot of disfiguring injuries.
Family members say Layne was roasting marshmallows at a friends house to make smores.
When the flames went out, one of the children or her, I do not know the complete story, accidentally or purposefully, put more gas to the fire, Chesney said. An explosion occurred and she was enveloped in flames.
She was rushed to an area hospital, but family members say they are simply hoping that she will survive.
The only part of her body that was not burned was the bottom of her feet, she said.
This happened in Fort Pierce, Fl. We live in the same county just a bit south of Fort Pierce. A Go Fund Me page has been set up. I don’t know the family but my heart goes out to them.
Please dear Gd help this girl.
Which is why I prayed to Gd to help her. He knows what she needs. I dont. Poor poor child.
You really hurt your abortion perspective here when you dis the older children like this.
We frequently enjoy our fire pit in the the morning or in the evening. When my grandchildren are visiting I allow them to build a proper fire with tinder, kindling, and fuel. It trains them in safety and gives them a productive outlet for their fascination with fire.
I posted this in 2012 of what sounds to be a similar treatment being used in England:
Burns tot has ‘spray-on skin’ cure

Unfortunately the link to the story at the Sun no longer pulls up, but a lot of the story is excerpted on the FR post. The pictures of the little boy were *amazing* after treatment. I realize his were 2nd degree, but I hope this girl will receive the latest and greatest to help her.
not really. Sadly.
She is essentially: peeled.
and don’t discount the internal burns of her lungs.
Normally what is done is the situation is explained, and the patient is kept comfortable. They are often lucid until very near the end.
right now these people are faced with the imminent death of their daughter. How is not as important now, as being present with all their love and caring.
Gasoline is flammable, diesel fuel is combustible.
Having been assigned to an Army Reserve medical unit *and* having worked for decades in civilian medicine I can tell you that US Armed Forces surgeons are known worldwide in the medical community for the advances they've made in the treatment of burn victims. But it sounds like you already knew that.
It took 4 hours to change the bandages, every two days. Excruciating.
Although he's not everyone's cup of tea (he's often pretty vulgar) Richard Pryor did a concert years ago during which he spoke at length about his experiences as a burn patient. It sounds like you and he had similar experiences.
And it used to be what Scouting was for, before Scouting was all about gay sex.
Sometimes it’s better not to make excuses, but just to say, “I apologize. My comment was inappropriate at this dreadful time for the family.”
I once used rubber cement on the back of a piece of shelf paper. The fumes from the stove pilot light three feet away in the tiny, enclosed kitchen made it ignite in my hands. Burned my eyebrows off. So lucky I had a wet dishtowel there to tamp the fireball out. I was in an apartment in a mostly wooden building built in 1820. Wouldn’t have taken much to start an inferno.
How dare you post to a post!
Amen, Yaelle.
After the soaking and painstaking removal of the stuck on gauze, then came the debridement process. Again, a Gray Lady, who was up in her years, and happened to have experience with burn victims from WW II, patiently did the process; God Bless her; and had the loveliest accent and hearing her stories made the time go by faster. [To this day, I eschew deriding the French.] This woman was a an angel.
Furacin. A new word in my vocabulary.
I must say, I never worked up the courage to actually look at the damage. Then she would call in the doctor, and I’d wait for his joyful exclamation: “Look! New pink skin!”
I just took his word for it. At some point in the debreding process, it was deciding to use a *hot tub* type contraption for me to soak in to ease the removal of dead skin. First two tries, I passed out due to the extraordinary pain. Eventually was able to tolerate it.
A backstory to this adventure, was that we [lowly ranked Airman & me] became close with the doctors. When I got out of the hospital, they invited us to play at the officer’s club for duplicate bridge. That was fun; even went on to a tournament and earned *master points*. LOL.
Our rubbing elbows with officers created some jealousy among our peers. And so it goes; another reason why military life, wasn’t in the career path of a Vietnam era draftee. One of the doctor wives recruited me to help with her Girl Scout troop, which was a nice experience.
You are to be commended for your service GSC. Kudos.
I never thought about having anything in common w/ R. Pryor. Heh. But you are right.
Sadly, her fight ended yesterday, nearly a year and a half after the accident.
Layne Chesney, teen who was badly burned in bonfire, dies at 15
Sorry about your injury, I understand that Manuka honey is good for burns, Trader Joe’s has it.
I’d probably agree with that, especially if the person knew Jesus.
Too much pain from burns for anyone to have to need to endure.
I cannot imagine the suffering that poor baby went through, even in the medically induced coma. I’m not all that sure that those comas can keep you unaware of what’s going on or feeling pain. Who knows what she was aware of and felt but could not express?
