Perhaps if the Acadamy Awards picked Best Pictures that anyone actually saw, they'd be more relevant. Here's a list of the box office rankings of the winner of the Best Picture awardvfor the last ten years:
2016 Moonlight: #101
2015 Spotlight: #62
2014 Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance): #78
2013 12 Years a Slave: #62
2012 Argo: #22
2011 The Artist: #71
2010 The King's Speech: #18
2009 The Hurt Locker: #116
2008 Slumdog Millionairee: #16
2007 No Country for Old Men: #36
To get to a year in which a Best Picture winner cracked the Top 10, you have to go back to 2003's "Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King".
These may well be good films. I couldn't say, as I haven't seen a single one of them.
In contrast:
1950: "All About Eve" #2
1951: "An American in Paris" #6
1952: "The Greatest Show on Earth" #1
1953: "From Here to Eternity" #1
1954: "On the Waterfront" #14
1955: "Marty" #37
1956: "Around the World in 80 Days" #2
1957: "The Bridge on the River Kwai" #1
1958: "Gigi" #5
1959: "Ben-Hur" #1
2015 Spotlight: #62 Same as above...
2014 Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance): #78 A gimmick, but Michael was very good.
2013 12 Years a Slave: #62 Don't need to see this to have an idea of the evils of slavery.
2012 Argo: #22 It was okay. Best Picture? Nah...
2011 The Artist: #71 Same story was done much better in Singing in the Rain....
2010 The King's Speech: #18 Man overcomes speech impediment. So- so...
2009 The Hurt Locker: #116 I thought it was great. Almost documentary in style.
2008 Slumdog Millionairee: #16 Great. A love story with sibling rivalry and rags-to-riches overtones. Plus Frida Pinto is beautiful.
2007 No Country for Old Men: #36 Great minimalist flick.
If Margo Robbie plays Hillary I may have to re-register my party. She makes my eye brows hard.
Is that fo real? Meryl the Hypocrite playing Hillary the Hypocrite?? Oh my gosh, typecasting I agree with!!
Yes, BRING IT, two women who used penises to climb to power and lied and hurt women and others every step of the way, while never failing to be arrogant and condescending to good people.
Both clung to rapist pricks (!) in order to gain success! Both didnt care what women got hurt! Perfect. Meryl doesnt even need to get into character for this one.
It's all an over-produced high school homecoming election.
Look for an October premiere just before the mid-term elections.
I wish it was. That would be better than the mass airing of political grievances we have today.
Ping, you may find this enlightening.
LOL!
Best Actor and Best Actress are easiest to predict.
For actress, look for someone beautiful playing ugly, preferably handicapped, and if lesbian or bi, that's a big bonus.
For actor, playing gay or retarded, or even better, both! And maybe having AIDS too.
I saw 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, and 2015. All were pretty good.
Yes I see a common theme there LOL.
The Academy doesn't go in for either.
The reality is simple. Hollywood makes movies that we hate because they sell great overseas.
I started posting about this reality years ago during GW’s .
terms.
We had a friend, who used to travel a lot to the UK, France, other Euro Trash countries, China, Japan and reasonably well off countries.
He told us that the more our Movie actors/actresses trashed America, the more popular they were in the countries where he traveled. Their talk shows were loaded with America Hating/spewing Follywood types. The more they hated America, the more popular their movies were across the oceans.
This is documented below:

Film and Movie Industry - Statistics & Facts
The global film industry shows healthy projections for the coming years, as the global box office revenue is forecast to increase from about 38 billion U.S. dollars in 2016 to nearly 50 billion U.S. dollars in 2020. The U.S. is the third largest film market in the world in terms of tickets sold per year, only behind China and India. Just under 1.2 billion movie tickets were sold in the U.S. in 2016. There are about 5,800 cinema sites in the U.S. as of 2016. According to a recent survey, 13 percent of Americans go to the movies about once a month, seven percent go see movies in the movie theater several times a month, whereas 31 percent go less than once a year. This is a considerable share taking into account the 52 percent of American adults who prefer watching movies at home.

So. movies that trash America with Follywooders who hate America and trash it often in our media, are very popular across the various oceans.
Our movie makers, actors/actresses don’t care how we feel about their products and them. The more we hate it/them, the more tickets they sell across the oceans.
“The Post” just came out under the wire for Best Picture. It will be nominated and probably win. In recent years, I have seen that the one film that successfully attacks either the United States or some sort of Christian or conservative institution or belief, will usually win best picture.
Honestly, I’d go see a movie of Margot Robbie reading the phone book!
I highly recommend No Country For Men, FRendo.
Top seller doesn’t equate to best.
Look at pop music from any era.
I don’t see a lot of movies, but I liked 07-10. I thought they were all pretty good, and King’s Speech very good.
And there are snubs and blacklists at the Oscars.
Quality and effort take a backseat to messaging and importance.
