1. You do not do so in an insulting manner. Rather, you praise him as a religious man with a distinguished public career; but quietly point out his failure to effectively oppose Obama, and the latter's eight year war against values sacred to most Utahans. Treat it simply as part of an understandable mellowing, which comes either with age or excessive politeness--or whatever.
2. You heap faint praise on him as an elder statesman, while attacking the Obaman legacy with all of the fire & vitriol that you carefully avoid in any direct reference to Romney. In other words, you showcase your superiority, while showing only deference to the weaker candidate.
