I went to school in the South ... one drive back to NC from Boston after winter break there was freezing rain, so route 95 in VA/NC area was basically a solid layer of 1 inch ice. Many many cars off the road spun out... all with southern plates. Many many cars ON the road ... NY, MA, RI, ME, VT etc.

It was fun. Route 95 is totally straight and boring ... so don't ask me HOW they managed to spin their cars off the road. If I had slammed my brakes on I would have spun 1/2 mile down 95 ... but still been on it.

Thanks for service!

Back in 1987 I was put on orders to be posted at Augsburg, Germany, which is in the south of Germany between Stuttgart and Munich. I arrived in country in November. My car arrived at the Port of Bremerhaven in December. So, I had to take a train up there to fetch my car. I left Bremerhaven at 6PM for an eight hour drive, arriving back in Augsburg at 2AM. It was black ice in the dark the entire drive home, mostly on back roads. Slid off the road twice. Most harrowing drive I ever made.
