Everyday objects from childhood toys to furniture wear down over the years without you even noticing
Daily Mail ^ | 1 January 2018 | Siofra Brennan

As time races by, most of us barely notice the change that wear and tear inflicts on the objects around us.

But everything from much loved teddy bears to the seats we sit on is marked by time every single minute of the day, as these fascinating images from around the world, collected by Bored Panda, reveal.

In them, train station seats have the ghostly imprints of the many people who have sat there immortalised on the wall behind, while a bicycle is now an inextricable part of a tree trunk after the boy who left it chained there never came back for it.

The post outside a popular club in New Orleans has had so many flyers stapled to it there's no room for any more

I love the picture of the post!

Back in the day, years before the internet, you tube, twitter, or texting, we used to advertise our band performances by stapling flyers to posts all over Boston. Of course, all the bands did this, and soon the posts began to look like that one!

I’d possibly call BS on some of these tree photos.

Yes, trees DO grow around things, but the question is at what rate? Not being a tree expert, I’d like to know what kinds they are and if it jibes with the items.

The gravestone, e.g., cannot be more than c. 120 years old, being basically granite which was not the overwhelming type until about 100 years ago. If this stone is that old, can the sapling that was next to it have grown to that extent? My biggest concern is that the stone is more c’40s.

The small bike? A glance implies it might be from the ‘50s, yet not only is it well ensconced in the tree (no split where it might have enveloped), but it is a few feet up.

A tree expert would be nice!

As a 30 year clean-room, chip-maker, all that worn 'stuff' wound up on my wafers/chips. We knew about wear, trust me.

Not an expert but it depends on the tree and where it is planted.

The Tulip Poplar can grow 40 feet tall in 15 years.

Use magnets to hold up posters to that post.

Clear tape (2 inches wide) wrapped around the post would still hold a poster (I’ve seen that technique used these days).

The bicycle photo has been in circulation for decades. The young lad who leaned it there died in the First World War, IIRC.

Great call. I'd like to hear more, too, since those pictures aren't all that uncommon of things in trees.

I found my greatgrandfather's grave taken over by the forest, but not by a single tree.

It's up on the top of a huge hill and some poor person was under it when it fell over while they were installing it. A Civil War group took it over and I found a cousin who had the design for the brass plaque that was stolen.

I have toys from the 80s that are now dull in color and the plastic has taken on a brittle feel, and they haven’t been handled that much the past 30 years.

Possible that tree is about 150 now and 70 when bike chained but just a guess.

Pinging our resident tree experts.

Can trees grow up around the objects pictured, or are these staged in some way?

Looks like it was not good for the tree. Tree looks sickly.

The rubber hasn’t even rotted on that front bicycle tire. That one is obviously fake.

As to the gravestone, while it is possible for some plants to grow quickly, the stone looks too pristine, but I’d rank that one as a possible.

Strangely enough, I actually find that very exciting. Any rough description of where it might be. I’d love to use Google maps street view to try to find it.
