Let me ask you this: Would a story that unpacks a list of tiresome words and phrases be impactful or a nothingburger? Worse, could it just be fake news?
Northern Michigans Lake Superior State University on Sunday released its 43rd annual List of Words Banished from the Queens English for Misuse, Overuse and General Uselessness. The tongue-in-cheek, non-binding list of 14 words or phrases comes from thousands of suggestions to the Sault Ste. Marie school.
This years list includes let me ask you this, unpack, impactful, nothingburger, tons, dish, drill down, let that sink in, and the top vote-getter, fake news.
The others are pre-owned, onboarding/offboarding, hot water heater, gig economy and the Trumpian Twitter typo covfefe.
While the list contains a little political flavor, Lake Superior State spokesman John Shibley said he had expected more given the highly divisive 2016 election and a year of deepening divisions in government and the U.S. electorate.

When activists at the CDC fraudulently claimed that Donald Trump was banning words, the Left called him Hitleresque.
So what about these turds in colleges who take glee in making up lists of words to be banned?
“Community”, “at the end of the day”, “shelter in place”, “inappropriate”, “dialogue”....I could go on & on....
The list was fun for a while, before the snow flakes took it over.
Covfefe forever
Fake News, until it is not
“Let me ask you this” died with Monty Pythons “The Meaning of Life” (it was the salmon moose)
Adolescent retards.
And don’t play any Clarence Carter songs!

I was born and raised down in Alabama
On a farm way back up in the woods
I was so ragged that folks used to call me Patches
Papa used to tease me about it
‘Cause deep down inside he was hurt
‘Cause he’d done all he could
My papa was a great old man
I can see him with a shovel in his hands, see
Education he never had
He did wonders when the times got bad
The little money from the crops he raised
Barely paid the bills we made
For, life had kick him down to the ground
When he tried to get up
Life would kick him back down
One day Papa called me to his dyin’ bed
Put his hands on my shoulders
And in his tears he said
He said, Patches
I’m dependin’ on you, son
To pull the family through
My son, it’s all left up to you
Two days later Papa passed away, and
I became a man that day
So I told Mama I was gonna quit school, but
She said that was Daddy’s strictest rule
So every mornin’ ‘fore I went to school
I fed the chickens and I chopped wood too
Sometimes I felt that I couldn’t go on
I wanted to leave, just run away from home
But I would remember what my daddy said
With tears in his eyes on his dyin’ bed
He said, Patches
I’m dependin’ on you, son
I tried to do my best
It’s up to you to do the rest
Then one day a strong rain came
And washed all the crops away
And at the age of 13 I thought
I was carryin’ the weight of the
Whole world on my shoulders
And you know, Mama knew
What I was goin’ through, ‘cause
Every day I had to work the fields
‘Cause that’s the only way we got our meals
You see, I was the oldest of the family
And everybody else depended on me
Every night I heard my Mama pray
Lord, give him the strength to make another day
So years have passed and all the kids are grown
The angels took Mama to a brand new home
Lord knows, people, I shedded tears
But my daddy’s voice kept me through the years
Sing,
Patches, I’m dependin’ on you, son
To pull the family through
My son, it’s all left up to you
Oh, I can still hear Papa’s voice sayin’
Patches, I’m dependin’ on you, son
I’ve tried to do my best
It’s up to you to do the rest
I can still hear Papa, what he said
Patches, I’m dependin’ on you, son
To pull the family through
My son, it’s all left up to you
“Hot water heater”?
You forgot "reach out to you"
Yeah, I didn’t get that one either. New slang that we haven’t yet picked up on?
Dreadful *tinny* sort of words.
“nothingburger”.
If you think you see that a lot here on Free Republic, think how often you must see that on liberal websites where they have been getting nothing except for disappointment after disappointment the family joint
“Dreadful *tinny* sort of words.”

and some just plain dumb - e.g. “shelter in place” is just “if you’re safe, stay where you are”. I don’t know if it’s suppose to sound more official if you say “shelter in place” or what.
“Yeah, I didnt get that one either. New slang that we havent yet picked up on?”

I think a whole lotta people call it a “hot water heater” - as if you need to heat up hot water, heh.
Right?
We could build such a list here on FR. I’d submit “true conservative.”
You’ve got the hot water line and the cold water line. You need to put the hot water heater on the hot water line, else you’ve got like you do at my house, where you have to turn on the cold water in the shower to get hot water, and vice versa.
Here is the definition of intersectionality:
Intersectionality is a theory that considers that various human aspects, such as class, race, sexual orientation and gender, do not exist isolated and separated from each other, but have complex, influential and interwoven relationships, and those relationships are essential to understanding of the human condition.
What it really really means is this:
We are going to bore you to death while we steal from you.
Like So, let me explain this...
Like So, here's what's important...
etc, ad nauseum.
Drives me crazy. People have forgotten how to speak English. Or, maybe they never learned in the first place.
How about “collusion”
And so it begins...
Boom, bombshell, reach across the aisle, went missing, make no mistake, pivot, cisgender, gender pronoun.
