Yes, he had - this was a suite in a luxury resort which at that point was being renovated. I was there because they had a very nice restaurant and then after dinner I went out to the garden with another guest and we were walking around the grounds. We started talking to one of the hotel employees and he asked us if we wanted to see where the Shah had stayed (some years earlier). It was still decorated the same, and apparently had been rented to other guests after his stay there, but at that point the whole wing or set of “cottages” (I don’t recall which) was being redone.

It was very sad, really, to think how badly the Shah, a firm US ally, had been treated.

A lot of naïve folks believed that Khomeini wasn’t interested in power, just in overthrowing the Shah, but once he got back to Iran, he showed his true colors.

The very same thing happened with Castro in Cuba.
