Most if not all Motown and Disco singers and musicians could really sing, play and write music. They were genuinely musically talented or at least skilled. Many these days are not. They can’t play instruments, they can’t compose music and they can’t really sing without vocal aids.
People love to disparage Disco, but there were Disco artists with serious talent.
Donna Summer was an underrated, very talented vocalist. Her cover of Dan Fogelbergs Nether Lands is beautiful.
Nile Rodgers is another example. He is still a sought after guitarist and producer. His contribution to Daft Punks Get Lucky is, IMO, what makes that song great. He is a legend.
I guess the reason that I dont hate Disco, like most people do, is that I was born in December, 1970 and Disco was one of the first genres of music that I was exposed to.
