Most of them still managed to outlive the men though, didnt they?No, the longer life expectancy of women is a modern phenomenon, due chiefly to the fact that, in earlier days, a large percentage of all women died giving birth (or shortly thereafter).

If you do any genealogy or visit old cemeteries you’ll see many tombstones for young women who died in their 20’s and 30’s. It’s not uncommon to see a man who died in his 80’s who is buried with his multiple young wives. Childbirth is risky.
