An excellent 19 minute discussion with concrete examples of how post-production made the original Star Wars movie into a quality motion picture.

Didn’t this movie just set a record for all-time drop in earnings from the first week to the second?

Ah yes! Of course, the thing we, or I, remember the most are the “moments”, and I’m not so sure that the “set up” is as important as made out in the video, referring to the immediate threat of the Death Star, in particular.

Maybe it made them happy to neaten that up a bit, and maybe it did help the movie, but the thing that we remember is Luke’s bombing run.

I haven’t seen the new one but I recall film makers complaining that RottenTomatoes.com movie reviews were basically destroying the industry and based on their grumbling, I thought they had figured out a way to dupe reviewers into recommending the movie (by any means necessary). Since the new one has come out, the professional reviewer score on RottenTomatoes.com is 92% (i.e., “fresh” or recommended) and the audience score is 52% (i.e., “rotten” or not recommended). While such differences are not impossible naturally on that site, I do think they gamed the system in light of the money spent on this “franchise” and their earlier complaints that RottenTomatoes was unfair and destructive.

They could have edited out a full 45 minutes of “The Last Jedi” and it would have made no difference whatsoever to the plot, except we could have avoided the SJW/Bernie Sanders propaganda on the casino planet.

I haven’t seen the new one

Wait for it at home. It's atrociously bad.

I read a reviewer who said that this one tried to “undo” all prior mythology and swing the entire series toward social justice. I was just in it for the old western, swashbuckling kind of escapist fare. I can get social justice anywhere. Thank you for the anti-recommendation. :)

Embarassingly bad indeed. Nearly all and every liberal nonsense can be found in the film : gender equality (top generals are all females, no kidding!), vegetarianism, races inclusivity, the rich exploit the poor, arms and weapons are source of evil... This would be forgiven if the plot, the dialogues, the scenes switching, the interminable tempos were not so horribly bad.

You feel cheated on every count (except the 3D visual which is always good divertissment), even the title “The Last Jedi” is big lie.

The editing, John Williams’ score, and the sound effects were what saved the movie.

user reviews on rottentomatoes are interesting: lengthy negative reviews, while all the 5-star reviews are one or two liners that are obviously faked, making only generic comments because they have obviously NOT seen the movie.

that’s the new trend on rottentomatoes: fake reviews by paid trolls, ESPECIALLY if it’s a Time-Warner movie because TW owns rottentomatoes.

given that the “professional” reviewers essentially judge a movie only by its SJW & PC content, i ruled out getting any insight from them at least a decade ago. With faked user-reviews being rampant now, there’s really no longer any way to obtain objective information about whether a movie is any good or not.

Say, didn’t Sony get into big trouble regarding a similar stunt regarding fake reviews via someone named “David Manning” with their films Hollow Man, The Animal, The Patriot, A Knight’s Tale, and Vertical Limit?

They should have kept Daisy Ridley away from the buffet table.

She is visibly heavier in the scenes filmed in 2016 than the ones shot in 2015.
