Update on Matt Damon’s new movie, Downsizing”, the weekend estimate is $4.6 Million. Another spectacular flop for Damon and another nail in his movie career coffin.

What’s wrong with Snoke pointing out that the helmet is stupid? What’s wrong with Ren realizing the helmet is stupid? The helmet WAS stupid.

It was AMAZING when Luke chucked the lightsaber.

Milk scene was a little gross.

Luke was absolutely right about why the Jedi Order needed to end. The Jedi order sucked. THEY put Palpatine in power, THEY put the galaxy under the thumb of a Sith Lord, they pretty much sucked at everything from the moment they met Anakin.

Midicholorians were bad storytelling that made the Force suck and everybody hated them. Good for Luke for not mentioning them (though let’s recall Kenobi and Yoda never mentioned them either, unless they’re in the books Luke might not even know).

Chopping Snoke in half was great, he was a lame character, kill it.

Ren was already turning to the Dark Side. That’s why Luke wanted to kill him. That’s when Ren realized it was a him or Luke situation.

Luke was right, Rey thought a Jedi would show and the galaxy would just fix itself. Luke had the experience to know better.

Lucas’ storytelling DESERVED to be pissed on. For one thing it changed dramatically. Original SW Darth (and Darth was his first name not his title, and he wasn’t the number 2 guy in the Empire, find the 4K restoration of the original prints) was NOT Luke’s father and Leia was NOT Luke’s sister. Lucas turned the story inwards and in the process pissed all over his OWN storytelling, breaking it away from Clan Skywalker is GOOD.

Breaking the old lightsaber was good, time for the story to move on.

Poe deserved to be rebuked, his attack cost too much and accomplished too little. At the end of his suicide mission the Rebels had no more bombers and the Empire has plenty more dreadnoughts.

Misplacing stun is a sign of how bad a story telling Lucas is.

DJ wasn’t the Han Solo character, Poe is the Solo. Having the MacGuffin fail was great, bucking standardized story telling is good. And yep, lots of Rebels died meaningless deaths. Welcome to the middle of the heroes journey: all hope is lost.

Ghost Yoda knows the Jedi failed, badly and often. He also knows it’s the Jedi and there’s probably 30 more “first temples” scattered throughout the galaxy.

Luke got smart. Happens sometimes.

I like how projection Luke was younger. He realized he had a couple messages to deliver. That done, time to go.

I sure hope the nerdboy contigent isn’t wonder who the kid is related to. Force powers are everywhere.

time for the story to move on.

Move on? There was no story in this movie and frankly, there is no where for this story to go. Snoke, Luke, Han, Phasma and Leia are dead. Finn is irrelevant. Rey has no interesting lineage and after about 30 minutes of Jedi training is somehow a master. Yoda's CGI looked like garbage

Face it. The remaining movies in the trilogy are just going to be marketing vehicles to sell more toys. That's the status of the Franchise.

Porg on!!!!

There’s tons of story in the movie. There’s still a big bad guy with snappy uniforms and a desperate rebellion doomed to failure. And Luke’s a Jedi, just because he’s dead doesn’t mean he won’t be in the next movie. And Leia is alive, it’s Carrie Fisher that’s dead. Luke didn’t have an “interesting” lineage until 10 minutes from the end of the second movie.

Yoda wasn’t CGI, they made a new puppet based on the original pattern.

The movies has been nothing but toys since the first one.

The movies has been nothing but toys since the first one.

Early on there weren't many toys so the ones made became somewhat valuable.

Saw a story that toy sales for the Last Jedi are down about 60%. They are able to track the number of shipping containers sent into the country containing these product tie ins (between 6 to 7 thousand).

Finally, if Disney's goal was to completely erase and ignore Star Wars canon and lore and go in a new direction: Mission Accomplished.

Disney is king. Jedi is at 745 mill worldwide after 10 days with 9 holidays days left. Coco its at 450 mill.

By “early on” you mean the first month. Then they all sold like monsters and they made TONS of them. First release is valuable. After that no so much.

Down 60% from when? A percentage without scope is meaningless. And how are other things tracking?

They neither erased nor ignored canon or lore. They actually REMEMBERED some very important canon:

there are planets other than Tatooine
there are families other than the Skywalkers

That’s all from before the movie even came out. Kind of meaningless. it’s still an insane volume and a license to print money.

It tracked month over month sales prior to release of the last two movies so nothing really to do with how good or bad the movie is. More likely just fatigue of the endless marketing of product these films are producing.

Obviously, people are getting smart to the fact that things are put into these movies (Porg) just to sell product. It detracts from the movies.

2 years ago was the big return, new toys for new movies. Force Friday that year made 1 billion dollars in 24 hours. Now it’s the 3rd movie in 3 years, another movie is coming in 6 months. It’s not fatigue or smarts, it’s the natural cycle of the market. There’s a big difference between the first new toys for new characters in 10 years and the first new toys for new characters 6 months.

Maybe that’s why Disney is killing off characters as quickly as possible so they can create new ones to make more toys of. /sarc

They aren’t killing off that many. Just enough to make the fanboys whine.

Not that many? How about the entire cast of Rogue One? Lol......

Seriously, though...I only cared about Donnie Yen. If Disney stays on this path, it will be completely enjoyable watching this train wreck of a franchise implode. People will be begging for reboots of the Phantom Menace... lul!

It’s not imploding. 3/4 of a billion dollars in 11 days ain’t imploding. The whining of fanboys means nothing, they just have their pathetic little psychosis. They “hates” the previous movie then “hate” the current one for “throwing” the previous one away. They just like to hate, and they pay good money to do it. And they’ll pay to watch the next one too, and then piss and moan about that. Lather, rinse, repeat, making each movie a billion bucks. Like Randy Newman said: it’s the money that matters, and the whiny little bitches still spend the money. Any idea that the series is imploding is pure masturbating BS by whiners.

While I do find it hilarious the number of fans screaming that Disney murdered their childhood, time will tell if these butt-hurt fans will stay away from future films if Disney maintains the same course.

Disney has a choice to recognize that a good portion of the fan base that is unhappy and possibly address it in the future, or just proceed with a giant middle finger to them.

Not sure if it's possible to travel back in time and see if the hard core fans had similar reactions to the prequels. Obviously, the biggest outrage was to Jar Jar.

I have to laugh at the comments of fans wanting to see him back. If it did happen, Disney would just kill him off in the next movie anyways... lul.

SW has been butthurting fans for 34 years, they keep coming back.

Problem is if Disney decides goal 1 is to placate the whiners 2 things will happen: they’ll turn SW into self repeating garbage which WILL result in a death spiral (though it will take a while SW has a lot of momentum), and they won’t successful placate the whiners because most of them WANT to whine.

Oh they had MUCH worse reactions to the prequels, and with good reason, those movies were terrible. And yet they kept going. Heck even I joked about knowing I was going to Revenge of the Sith even though I knew ahead of time it was gonna suck. The biggest outrage wasn’t actually Jar Jar, though there was plenty of loathing for Jar Jar, the biggest outrage was “whoopee”, people had a serious issue with Darth Vader expressing the joys of childhood. And all the really bad racial stereotypes.

That number alone is pretty meaningless based on other factors.

The top line means nothing without dissecting the budget of the movie including production and marketing, the split of the domestic and international box offices and the splits of the movie theater cuts in the foreign markets.

If you look at the top box office movies for the year, by a vast majority, the percentage of box office comes from overseas where the theater splits are much higher in favor of the theaters.
