Ive heard one of these groups on the local PBS station - great music. Now to download some!
Acoustic funk (seems Spanish)

Russian Funk

The Russian one is pretty cool, especially considering the year, 1974. Unless it was some sort of official propaganda effort I’d think it would have been condemned as bourgeois.
You’d be surprised how much good music was produced behind the Iron Curtain.
This is Czeslaw Niemen from Poland, one of my musical heros....
I love this opening drum break, surprised I haven’t heard it sampled....

Interesting, has a sixties flavor to it but I can’t get past the Polish lyrics. Not a sonorous language.
Actually I think Polish flows better than Russian when sung. But I’ve been listening to Polish music for years, so I guess I’m used to it now.
For anyone who’s bored...

“Russian Funk”
This is funky...real funky.

there used to be a website: Voodoofunk.com that had all these great sides from the west coast of Africa. Benin High-life, such from Nigeria, etc. There were more than 30 hours worth of mixes that I downloaded. Unfortunately the website is gone and so is all that great music.. expect on my hard drive!
It is really nice music, but it is hardly Bootsy and the Rubber Band or Chaka Kahn

There’s still some good soul music being made in the US, too.
Angie Stone - “Backup Plan”
Production might be a little heavy on the autotune but I’ve seen it live and she still sounds good.
Our local independent radio station out of Bridgeport Conn. plays a LOT of North African jazz/funk/blues/punk - the different instruments, timing, tunings, etc. all make for some really hot sounds.
