Ive hated Saturday Night Fever since the first time I saw it in 1977. Its the only Hollywood movie that offends me as an Italian-American. Sure, its iconic but that debased term is now used for every pizza joint that closed because of a rent hike.
I admit that I love the pulse-pounding opening sequence where John Travolta prances under the 86th Street tracks in Bensonhurst to the beat of the Bee Gees Stayin Alive. Who doesnt? But the next 116 minutes make my blood boil.
Movies about Mafia gangsters, which some Italian-Americans grumble about, rarely bother me. The Mafia was and is a real thing. Some Mafia movies are cinematic masterpieces.

During the 1975-1979 period, The Bee Gees pretty much ruled radio. Especially in 1978. You could not get away from them. They even wrote massive hit songs for other artists such as Yvonne Elliman and Tavares. And the Andy Gibb hits were pretty much Bee Gees songs.
I’d say the Godfather or any Scorcese movie is worse for that.
Every single white guy from New Jersey I met in the Army wanted to be that disco douchebag.
Not to mention their propensity to theft and fighting.
Steve Cuozzo sounds like a whinging biotch!
Ahhh shuddup-a your face!
#metoo Italians are a victim class too because Italians make movies about them being disco douchebags.
You sound like two WASPS :)
Tailback, way to stereotype!! :)
Brother is a lawyer, sisters are doctor, account and college professor, cousins are CEOs, upper management at prestigious investment banks and on and on.
Me, I’m more of the stereotype.
I’d knock someone the #### out if they insulted Italians in front me.
The race fights were true. We had them a lot in the 80s when I was in high school.
PRs against Italians, blacks against Italians, blacks against PRs.
And sometimes the Irish would help us :)
The WASPS sat in the corner doing their nails.
Just watch out for those Italians after they watch Rocky......

Any movie with John Travolta was a crime. So how do you stop it?
I understand his embarrassment at that depiction of an Italian-American underclass from Bensonhurst. But it had more to do with almost any ethnic urban underclass than with Italian ethnicity. It was basically about working-class youth, no higher education, and what they found to distract themselves from their bleak outlook. Could have been Irish, Polish, any ethnic group. Every group has a struggling underbelly.
Actually the sequel, “Staying Alive” was an even bigger insult.
WASPS-
Love animals, hate people. LOL
My mom (Czech) grew up next to a large Italian family in the Bronx in the 30’s and 40’s. 10 kids.
She learned the language from them. Daughters were all her best friends. When the Yankees won the pennant or the series, they’d host block parties for days after.
She loved them all and missed them dearly when she moved upstate after getting married to my dad.

Shaddap.
and Fahgeddabouddit.
You sound like a loud, rude, crude, pushy person from New Jersey. Please stay on the East Coast where you belong. Chris Christy was such a perfect representative of your type that it should have been an internet meme.
Douche.
I cannot think of a stoopuder reason to fight.
