SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- People gave up 271 guns during a weapons buyback in San Francisco Saturday.
The buyback was held on Howard Street in the South of Market Area when police showed off this military-grade bazooka.
Officers also collected handguns, shotguns, and high-powered rifles.
A community leader believes San Francisco took a big step toward being less violent with the event.

I went to Wal-Mart to get a clip for my bazooka, but they were sold out.
Her family most certainly is. This ridiculous liberal feel-good sham collected mostly garbage weapons while the scum that murdered Kate used a federal agents weapon that the agent lost.
So that one’s a trainer, but even a live one, once it’s fired, is pretty much just an empty tube. I think surplus places sell them as novelties.
Do gang-bangers hold that sideways?
Well, it’s a good start.
That would be legitimate, the putzes in Sacramental made those illegal decades ago.
No such fun in California anymore. Back in the day I used to use golf balls for ammunition, my friend decided to aim it at one of those enclosed U-Haul trailers and the golf ball almost penetrated the side.
I’ve seen a few expended ones in surplus stores.
Yield 1.65 Mt. ‘Retired’ in 1965. But I sure Lil’ Kim would like one - something of an upgrade for him.
As a kid growing up in Vietnam error (er, era), the bazooka was the world’s coolest-ever weapon choice for everything: Chipmunks, deer, grizzle bears, saber-tooth tigers ... Tanks, buildings, targets ... 8<)
Nice! I’m thinking EU styled graphics depicting how to set it off -ending with little stick figure heading for the exit stairs
Well, sort of. The is little physical “kick” or recoil on the guy shooting (until the rocket exhaust leaves the nose of the weapon and hits you in the face, head and body), but the room and building behind you is sometimes destroyed.
Cue the ISIS Yutube shows of a terrorist standing behind a RPG or SAM.
Bazooka? That went out with WWII, the next generation was a 2 piece Rocket Launcher aka 3.5 followed by LAWs, and portable ATMs (No, not a $$ machine). He’s holding a rocket launcher with no missile. It may be a nice lamp stand, but harmless as a weapon. It may as well be a piece of 4” PVC tubing. Both would cause the same amount of damage. A gun it isn’t. However with today’s press, it can be called a large automatic AK 47 or AR15. No one turned in a blue grenade???
That’s no “bazooka”... :p
A scene I’ve always remembered.
Pretty good movie too.
Cold bold Callahan with his great big 44.
At least they didnt call it an AR-15.
i had the blue "warhead" from a 152mm HEAT round in my apartment in Germany when i was there. Still have a pair of Shillelagh missile brass end caps i use as planters.
I grew up in SoCal way back when you could have fun and lots of it. There was this “toy” called a spud gun. It actually used real potatoes. Don’t remember exactly how it worked but you stuck the barrel into the potato and it pulled out a small plug of potato. We went around popping everyone and thing (except critters). It was one of those toys that came with the warning “Becareful how you use it. Can put your eye out”. Eventually they were removed from sale. Oh those were the days.....
