Thanks kiddo.
If this was back in western Missouri or eastern Kansas four years back, I would know the potential players, but relocating messes up the historical background feel for everyone who is fairly new like me.
I think this is part of what got Flake elected — he sounded good and looked good.
McCain is always able to fool a lot of people here as well.
Although not swimmin' in AZ waters (thus getting the pollster calls you presently are) I'm pretty dang sure I'm not the only one that's more than merely irritated by the artificiality of the "baits" that pollsters fling trying to see what gets nibbled at the most-est.
What about the real deal -- a "real worm", an actual minnow/sardine/anchovy of a swim-bait, instead of the plastic they hurl at people while pretending, and apparently attempting to lead we pan-fish into believing the plastic version is the real (political) "issue"?
It's no wonder so many have abandoned sorting out the fake from the real.
It's like a full-time job just to keep track of it all, while meanwhile, "back at the ranch", and out on the desert floors of ongoing life as it is, there seems always more immediately pressing concerns...
Let us know when you come to a firm conclusion. Im a Kelli Ward supporter at the Senatorial level and I think shes SOLID!
When Flake ran in the 2012 election I contributed to his campaign. Some Arizona FReeper (I cant remember who) warned me that Flake was a big phony and was merely pretending. Flake sure fooled me and the local FReeper had read him well. He turned out to be a member in good standing of the open-borders, globalist political coalition. I want Franks replacement to be as solid as Franks has been.
Whoever wins the nomination, Republicans have to unite behind him and hold the seat!
Whoever wins the nomination, Republicans have to unite behind him and hold the seat!
They will, as long as the voters nominate the candidate the GOPe selects. They better not dare nominate someone who might disagree with McConnell.
Thanks
Ping.
What are your thoughts on this primary?
Sorry I didn’t answer your question last night — it got late in our time zone.
This is a solid R district. So solid the Democrats don’t always run someone. I think Trump won it by well over 20%.
The real issue is damaging our own political base. We all like the idea of the Cincinnatus but to be practical, politics is a career despite our aversion to the reality.
Arizona has a “Resign-to-Run” law which is fairly new. It means that challengers to incumbents who are not in the last year of their term must resign state office to run for a state elected position.
We have all these good people: I don’t see anything bad about the great swath of these candidates. Montenegro, Sylvester, Lesko, Yee and the list continues. They all must resign to fully seek this office because of when the special election is being held.
On the one hand, we have this winner take all primary system requiring no run off that makes for a lot of candidates and a it favors an incumbent. Was the Resign to Run law thought to limit that or protect incumbents? Who knows but we have many in the legislature and state and county offices that have to give up their political job (which often is a good percentage of thier income) to run. That is a bummer and jacks up the careers of these public servants that often make very little from these positions.
I sure hope so. The old guard reelected McCain. :-(
I’d just arrived when he won the primary, so I couldn’t vote against him.
Whoops, wrong thread, I was thinking “McCain” and not “Flake”.
I’m in Tucson. Debbie Lesko has been a very effective legislator and I know her from AZ Republican Women and was with her in New York at the 2004 Convention.
I also know Bob Stump personally. He lived in Tucson for awhile, and I know his mom. He and I drove up to Phoenix for a Congressional hearing on the McCain Campaign Reform Bill. We were both against it.
He served in the Legislature for 4 terms. Was reliable conservative vote.
Also served on the AZ Corporation Commission. Held off enviro whackos. He and Debbie and Steve all pro-life.
Probably whoever wins will be good for our state.
BTW, I’m also helping with Kelli Ward’s campaign.
Thanks. Fast forward - who do you see wining?
Oh, I have no projections at this point. I certainly think Bob Stump is in the lead as he went at this within 24 hours of the opportunity.
What concerns me is that he writes occasionally for National Review and he has an article for Arizona Capital Times on June 24, 2016 entitled “Bob Stump: Anger is conservatives proper response to Trump candidacy”.
Now don’t get me wrong, I voted for Cruz in the primary about that same time on an absentee ballot. People can support a nominee and then a subsequent President, I did. But I have not heard him do it other than an off hand reference to a speech in Germany.
If Stump is not a flake like Flake, he needs to indicate it. Otherwise he appears to me, framed by his rhetoric.
Thanks. I appreciate your insight. I didn’t vote for Trump in the primary, either, but did in the general and I support him now.
We need to keep the House, but especially the Senate majority, or there is no hope of getting Trump’s judicial picks on the bench.
My Senators as of this moment are McCain and Flake. My congressman, Franks, has resigned. I live in Maricopa County and Sheriff Joe lost.
I am without sane national representation in the Congress or in the media and I am in a very conservative district?
How can this be?
How long you been painting?
It’s a hobby - about 25 years.
Retired a couple of years ago and have started a few. Only painted as a kid. Actually got sidetracked with harmonicas, LOL.
There were a lot of us here warning that Flake was a total phony back in 2012.
