That old wives tale may be comforting to some but since it cant be proved I suspect its wrong. Damnit, it's not an old wives' tale! It's been proven through hundreds of coroner reports.

His body was recovered by window washers. At least they were there with the sponge and bucket.

Sure. Ive had relatives who smoked more than 4 packs per day.
I also remember reading that John Melloncamp (sp?) smoked 5 packs per day and would actually wake up at various times during the night just to smoke.

According to interviews of the (few) survivors who jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge, time slows down and they became hyper aware. Actually the opposite of what you describe
And, according to the interviews, during those slow subjective seconds before they hit the water they all regretted jumping.

And, according to the interviews, during those slow subjective seconds before they hit the water they all regretted jumping. In the words of one who survived his jump of the Golden Gate Bridge: "the instant I cleared the chord, I realized every problem I had could be solved, except for the one I had just caused myself."
The "chord" is the steel beam just on the other side of the pedestrian fence.
