What a terrible shame. There wasn’t much left of the old China after Mao got finished, and now here’s another major treasure gone.

A huge fire yesterday reduced a 16-storey Buddhist pagoda to rubble in China. All formations are impermanent

To: Red Badger
With nine dragons hanging around the place, it was only a matter of time.

That’s the trouble with Chinese pagodas.
You build one and a thousand years later you gotta build another one!..........

I think this one was a real accident. They were renovating it when the fire broke out...............

I absolutely agree. What a beautiful structure and to think of the skill and craftsmanship that went into it's construction.
The fire must have been incredible with all of that wood.

    That’s total kr@p.
A retro fit of a sprinkler system may have been indicated.
Muzzies are likely celebrating, though likely not the cause as Japan has a common sense, comprehensive immigration policy.

One of my favorite fireworks as a kid, Friendship Pagoda

along with snakes, sparklers, Jumping Jacks, chasing whistlers ... until I discovered stuff that blew up!

That was probably inspired by the one in China.
It will be rebuilt.
This time with water sprinklers..................

Confucious say: Wise man not keep dragon that breathes fire in wooden structure.

To: tumblindice
Creepy! That’s EXACTLY the same firework that I thought of when reading this story. The Friendship Pagoda was her favorite and we had to buy one every year. It spins, whistles, then at the end it pops up and has a small read lantern burning in the windows.
