Why is sekulow advising President Trump to allow this Mueller coup to ‘play out’?
Why isn’t sekulow advising President Trump to appoint an independent special counsel himself?
I’m not impressed by this squish...
I think this is way Team Trump wanted to let Sessions know he better get moving on it, or else, while keeping the President somewhat insulated from more obstruction claims.

There’s a reason why Trump hired him. Sekulow is a heavyweight. He started his career as a tax trial attorney for the IRS. He’s argued cases before the Supreme Court a dozen times.
It might be better for Sessions to appoint a special prosecutor since Sessions has recused himself from the Russia issue, and this would deflect from the 100% certain-to-happen slander that Trump doing so would be retaliatory or even obstruction (as ridiculous as that is, because we know that’s exactly what the Democrats and leftwing media will say).
Sekulow just appeared on Hannity, and made it clear his primary target of ire is the corruption in the DOJ, including the inept Sessions.
Since he is official counsel for the President, I would think the President approved this message.
The overall message is the DOJ colluded with Hillary, and the Russians via Steele, to steal the election, not Trump.
