Older movie, Im sure many have watched here. If not, that is why I posted this as the USA is starting to look like East Germany every day:
Published on Jan 9, 2007At once a political thriller and human drama, THE LIVES OF OTHERS begins in East Berlin in 1984, five years before Glasnost and the fall of the Berlin Wall and ultimately takes us to 1991, in what is now the reunited Germany. THE LIVES OF OTHERS traces the gradual disillusionment of Captain Gerd Wiesler (Ulrich Muhe, best known for his lead roles in Michael Haneke's FUNNY GAMES and as Dr. Mengele in Costa-Gavras' AMEN), a highly skilled officer who works for the Stasi, East Germany's all-powerful secret police. His mission is to spy on a celebrated writer and actress couple, Georg Dreyman (Sebastian Koch) and Christa-Maria Sieland (Martina Gedeck).
Perhaps.
Great movie! William F Buckley said “I think I just saw the greatest movie I’ve ever seen”.

The Lives of Others...
On the list.
I watched it years ago, when it was first released on video. A co-worker had recommended it to me. When talking about it later, I said that it could be a preview of what may await us in the U.S., if we are not careful. He scoffed at the notion...
Funny you should post this.
I was just thinking about this movie last night.
One of my favorite movies, probably my favorite movie of all time.
Highly, highly relevant for any American living today.

Definitely on my “Best Movie” list. Was the absolute embodyment of Hannah Arendt’s “banality of evil.” Should be mandatory viewing for all of those nitwits who think gubmint is the solution to every problem. But, Scripture and The Constitution allow people to be ill-informed and wrong-headed.
Not only a great flick overall, but one of the very best concluding lines of any movie I’ve seen.
I haven’t seen the movie, but have put it on my list. Had occasion to correspond with an older German lady from Dresden in the early 90s. When the wall went down, it was like she was released from prison. She drove her Traubant all over West Germany, traveled to Scotland and the US. We were able to meet her in Chicago. She was reticent to discuss the Communist era. Said “It was a different time.”
“Der einschauen is zum ent.” she said. It took me a while to figure out what she meant, but it was the universal Stasi spying.
Wonder what happened to their records? That was in the days before hard drives, computer records, etc.
Its what Hillary and Bernie, never Trumpers, etc. want for us.
I saw this movie about 8 years ago.
Excellent. Highly recommended.
Every Millenial who has no memory of the Iron Curtain should be forced to watch this.
You’re right. It’s a great movie. I have it on DVD and have watched it thrice.
Added it to my list.
Bkmk
I'm right there with him.
For later.
Isn't it? Gets my screen blurry every time. I don't think there's been a movie where I found someone so loathsome in the beginning, and wound up cheering for him in the end.
I would also highly recommend, “Goodbye, Lenin!”
