If you went to the original Kelly’s (at Revere Beach), my parents live right next door in that housing complex. That was the area I grew up in.

It kind of sounds similar to songs by John Stewart from that period.

There is a bit of a connection there.

"Hot Summer Nights" was written by Walter Egan and was orginally on the 1978 "Not Shy" album - which was co-produced by Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac. He also provided some guitar work and along with Stevie Nicks, some background vocals.

Well John Stewart's 1979 "Bombs Away Dream Babies" album - which contained the big radio hits you are probably referring to - was ALSO co-produced by Lindsey Buckingham! Not only that, but he also provided some guitar work with backing vocals...along with, yes, Stevie Nicks!

The Buckingham/Nicks sound influenced a lot of pop hits during that late 1970s era. Fleetwood Mac was coming off a monster album ("Rumours") and the members were very much in demand at the time to lend their unique talent and sound to other artists in the studio.

Late in 1979, Fleetwood Mac would release the double-album "Tusk" which was not the monster hit that "Rumors" was but pretty darn good in my opinion. It is perhaps my second favorite Fleetwood Mac album (my favorite being "Mirage" from 1982).

Anyway, the driving energy behind Night's cover of Egan's "Hot Summer Nights" still brings back memories for me of driving my father's car up and down Revere Beach with the windows down (I was 17 at the time) and scoring fried clams at Kelly's.

I hope the song does not get banned.

That same summer was the song called “Driver’s Seat” by Sniff ‘n’ The Tears.
