The full horror of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour has been laid bare in newly colorized pictures released on the 76th anniversary of the assault.
In just 90 minutes, more than 2,400 US servicemen and civilians lost their lives while 17 ships were damaged or lost - dragging America into the Second World War and forever changing the course of the conflict.
The pictures here show the wrecks of the USS California, which sank after being hit by two torpedoes and two bombs, and the USS Oklahoma, which was holed by four torpedoes and capsized.

So “Color” pictures make the horror more horrible?
Who knew.
Missile assault??
Even the Daily Mail is hiring children to work for them.
My thought also...what missiles?
Forget it, he's rolling.
Horrible! Those poor people. The color makes it worse in a way.
Like 9/11/2001, my dad remembers what they were doing when they heard the announcement about Pearl Harbor. The family was celebrating my grandma’s birthday a day early with extended family and the announcement came over the radio, dad was 7. Must have shaken everyone.
But I suppose a bomb could be considered a missile if it had forward motion but hey whado I know ??
my first thought as well. Was coming here to post just that.
If you’ve never seen the movie “Idiocracy”... I swear we are living it today.
Actual daily mail title:
“On the 76th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, shocking colorized photographs show the horror of the missile assault that claimed more than 2,400 lives and pulled the US into the Second World War”
So who inserted the word ‘missile’ into this post?
I won’t say that Daily Mail writers and editors are the worst, but they’re sure trying for the prize. I post for pictures and grind my teeth for the rest.
So does mine he was in Schofield Barracks
The DM
The loss of all the sailors was terrible. But the loss of the ships wasn’t as heavy a blow.
The damaged battleships were WWI vintage ships, too slow to keep up with the Fast Carrier Task Force that was to be our main strike arm in the Pacific war.
Our carriers were out to sea and undamaged by the attack.
Not sure what you mean, PIF. I cut the headline but that’s the only way you can post since they really limit headline length. Missile is in your title as well as in the shortened thread title.
