Most of the women I meet are in deep financial doo-doo, struggling to stay afloat and basically looking for someone to rescue them from their situation.
In the past year, I've only met two women who had their stuff together, were financially independent, able to stand on their own, had good careers and as best I could tell were emotionally available. One is a neo-natal nurse who has her Masters Degree and is a nursing professor at a university well known for its nursing program, the other runs an oncology program at a major hospital in Chicago and has her PHD. Both are attractive, very smart, stand on their own, don't "need" anyone but would like someone in their life. Both also really like their careers and want their relationships to fit in the time available (read that: "left over") from when they're not busy working.
I have my days where I just want to throw in the towel and give up. I also have my days where I think to myself "God didn't make us to be alone..." and I keep trying. I'm thinking I'm taking a break until after the new year at this point. (Sigh...)

They don't sound very available emotionally to me.
You do bring up a good point. Seems like many of us women are at either extreme -- either struggling financially or doing well but intensely focused on careers and as hell-bent on success as our male counterparts. Very few are in jobs that pay decently but are not so demanding as to take time and attention away from dating and marriage.
