It doesn't bode well for The Salvation Army, and I would hardly consider them "liberal".
And with at least 82 cents of the dollar (nationwide average) going to directly to persons in need....no scamming, just "doing the most good".
Bottom line, charitable contributions are still deductible. But filing tax returns has been greatly simplified for the vast majority of filers and the taxes for most of them are going down. And you can still itemize if it helps you and you’re not going to be hurt as badly as you fear. And if people get to keep more of their own money, some of them may actually contribute more to their favorite charities. Some people donate whether they get a deduction or not...if they have the money. Taxes going down and that’s a good thing.

It’s understandable. There’s a few of those folks running around FR too (yelling, “I *paid*...” for some such illegal\Ponzi scheme or another).
