but at least they won their conference, Bama didn’t even win its division...and their big out of conference win is a what 4 8 FSU team?? ok...

Clemson already beat them this year... rinse repeat. I saw nothing during all barn that would suggest they can even be close...

I think you're focusing way too much on division titles in these conferences. I remember the 2010 season in the SEC being the most absurd. In the final season ranking you had the following teams from the SEC West:

#1 -- Auburn (14-0, national champion)
#8 -- LSU (11-2)
#10 -- Alabama (10-3)
#12 -- Arkansas (10-3)
#15 -- Mississippi State (9-4)

Four of these teams didn't win the division, yet in the other division the SEC East was won by a South Carolina team that finished with a 9-5 record. And LSU ranked higher than Arkansas at the end of the year, but finished behind them in the SEC West standings because Arkansas won their head-to-head matchup.

That FSU team was 4-8 mainly because their starting quarterback was injured in their opening game loss to Alabama. They played the rest of the season with a freshman backup QB. FSU was ranked #3 in the country before that game against Alabama.

What's interesting is that now there is a chance for an all SEC Championship Game.

Going to be a lot of moaning if that happens. Which I kind of agree. I think the CFP Committee needs some wiggle room and should have put Bama-GA playing each other in the semis.

look, your a fan I get it.
I just don’t think you can honesty say that bama is 4th best when its not even the best in its own division!!
I was hoping for badger TCU wins, oh well...
MY OPInion if your going to claim a nat title, you should AT LEAST have won a division...

yes FSU lost a few because of that... but other teams lose their key players and don’t totally tank...

That's a good point. They may want to fine-tune the selection rules to ensure that if two teams from the same conference make the playoffs, they play each other in the first game.

It's worth noting that this would not be a good thing in a year like 2012, where it was pretty much agreed that Alabama and LSU were the two best teams in the country. More than 40 players from that game went on to play in the NFL (that number itself is staggering), and between the two teams there were 11 future NFL first-round draft picks (maybe even more amazing).

Even a playoff doesn’t necessarily determine who the “best” team is. Is it the best team at a particularly moment, or the team that put in the best body of work over a period of time?

That’s one thing I like about the English Premier League in soccer. The Champion is the team with the best record, period. Not who got hot at the right time. Each team plays the other twice, about as close as you can get to determining who the best team is.

I'm not an Alabama fan at all. I just want to see the four best teams in college football playing for the title. I think you have that here.

I just don’t think you can honesty say that bama is 4th best when its not even the best in its own division!!

Look at my last post about the 2012 BCS national championship game. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone who knows college football who didn't agree that Alabama and LSU -- who play in the same division! -- were the two best teams in the country. In that case, a team that didn't win its own division (Alabama) ended up beating the team that did win that very same division (LSU) for the national title!

In another quirk from that matchup, LSU ended up with one more win than Alabama that year (13-1 vs. 12-1) because LSU played in the SEC championship game and won over Georgia.

if I recall LSU didn’t even score in that game? or am I thinking of another game... if they didn’t, I kinda find it hard to believe they were 2nd best team in country that couldn’t even manage a field goal... has there ever been a shutout in Nat Title game?

I would say the last 7 years or so Bama has def been dominate... just not this year.
My opinion

They had beaten Alabama two months earlier by a 9-6 score. How can you possibly say they weren't the 2nd best team in the country? LOL.

I agree that Alabama wasn't nearly as dominant this year as they were in the past. The question is whether they're one of the four best teams in the country right now -- and I think they are.
