Cuomo urges feds to pass $94B aid package for Puerto Rico

Gov. Cuomo urged the feds to approve a new $94.4 billion aid package for Puerto Rico as he headed to the storm-ravaged island Saturday to survey the damage from the September hurricane and assess recovery efforts.

“The federal government should not only be ashamed of itself for the way it has handled this crisis, but for treating Puerto Ricans as second-class citizens,” Cuomo said from a press conference at JFK Airport before boarding a plane to the island.

Puerto Rico has demonstrated atrocious management of its finances and government for decades. They are a bunch of freeloaders with little to offer the U.S. except more mouths to feed on welfare.

I know that the current head of the NYC City Council, Melissa Mark-Viverito, has used her position almost exclusively to lobby NYC citizens' money to end up in Puerto Rico---not NYC. It seems she has done little else while on the council. Only PR causes seem to merit her attention, despite her having ostensibly been elected to serve the people of NYC.

Now the far left anal orifice Cuomo wants to us to hand over $94B of OUR money to PR. If you recall when Cuomo was head of HUD, he also practiced giving away the store to undeserving do-nothings. He has not changed. I don't think we owe PR one single greenback. They have been given U.S. aid in the past, and did not change their profligate ways. Are they to be an endless money pit, with few if any returns for the U.S. taxpayers?

I live in Buffalo, New York. Mighty big of the governor to spend my money on a foreign country. (I know what Puerto Rico is). It would be nice if Andrew Cuomo JUST ONCE ever gave more than a passing thought to New York State taxpayers.

Hey Andy, why don’t you cough up that $59 Billion in taxpayer money that went missing while you were HUD secretary?

And these same people squawk at $20 billion for the Wall which is a national security and drug prevention issue solution.

What foreign country?

It is American territory for 100+ years and everyone born there is an American citizen that is free to move anywhere in America

The world has stopped making any rational sense.

When does the latest of the Cuomo dynastic governors finally expire?

Why doesn’t he spend HIS vast fortunes helping the devastated Puerto Ricans, in turn for thier votes, when they return the next time to NY State?

Well...WE can tell by this at least one Democrat that will be running against DJT in 2020. Curious if it will be more than running off at the mouth.

Cuomo seems to me is a lot like Jerry Brown in that he creates evil straw men, and conquers them for the people of course. Jerry Brown always won by the Marvel factor rather than any legitimate issues.

Doesn’t Puerto Rico already OWE over $60 BILLION to investors & hasn’t made payments-—is in default BEFORE the hurricane hit?

Cheaper to move all the PR’s to the USA & blow up the island than to try & repair it.

Apparently! What a condescending, arrogant, self-absorbed lib. Why doesn’t NY come up with the money he wants to send to PR?

Popular in NY but I doubt it will help him when he runs for President.

That works out to about $25,000 per resident.

Shortly after the hurricane had hit PR, I was talking to a friend who is left leaning libertarian, but also realistic. At the time he said that it would be cheaper in the long run to pay for the relocation of all PR residents and abandon the island; Let it go back to nature.

He was right.

No, Cuomo DOESN’T WANT ANY MORE PUERTO RICANS COMING TO LIVE PERMANENTY IN NEW YORK CIT/STATE. Too much a drain on the state’s coffers, but if we send the money to P.R., the people will stay there.

[The decent people of Puerto Rico do need help. It’s fools like the Mayor of San Juan or whatever city she was from, who wanted to stir up anti-Trump, anti-white trouble, and the media bought it like a whore chasing a $20 bill across the street].

He’s a racist!

Now, if it were Italian refugees fleeing from Moslem immigrants in Italy, he’d send them back in a flash, like the SS St. Louis was. That time he’d be all-for refugees in the Old Country.

You misspelled her name. It should be “Melissa Marxist-Viverito Castro”.

She’s the top red on the City Council. A successor to previous reds including Ruth Messinger (DSA)and Miriam Friedlander (Communist Party USA), among others.

Maybe why this is why Gutierrez isn’t running for his house seat. He wants to get back into Puerto Rico and get hold of the billions in aid money like the Clinton’s did in Haiti...

It’s like a piggy bank. Those that need it the most will not get it but Luis and his buddies will rake it in and get fat rich...Think of it...94 Billion! In the hands of “administrators” like Luis Gutierrez.

Is there any honesty anymore? Is there anyone out there that would be responsible and not do something just for money? The world has become a sickening place with these lawyers, Our Savior had an expression for them “The Robbers of Widows”...

Let me diagram this for you. As you read this, talk s-l-o-w-l-y to yourself.

"I live in Buffalo, New York. Mighty big of the governor to spend my money on a foreign country." This was sarcasm.
"(I know what Puerto Rico is)." This was a signal to those who might not have GOT the sarcasm, that it was sarcasm (in case you weren't sure)
" It would be nice if Andrew Cuomo JUST ONCE ever gave more than a passing thought to New York State taxpayers." This was the point of the post, and should have tied it all together for you. Unless you are going to tell me that, while, YES, Puerto Rico is an American Protectorate, according to the codicil of 1796, New York State is responsible for its well-being, I am not sure what mandate Andrew Cuomo has to bestow upon Puerto Rico the largess of the New York State Treasury. He certainly has never ran on such a platform.

Now, one supposes that Andrew Cuomo wishes to run for president. Perhaps, (and I defer to your obviously superior logic), just perhaps, he is angling to curry favor with the Puerto Rican/Hispanic strata of our population. Perhaps, (and this is only perhaps), he thinks that taking a back-handed swipe at President Trump will pay dividends in a general election. But, this summer, parts of southern Erie County and Wyoming County were hit by a rare tornado. These areas were adversely affected. These areas are DECIDELY within the sovereign territory of New York State. Not incidently, these rural areas vote overwhelmingly Republican. Not incidently, Andrew Cuomo doesn't give a rat's ass about these areas (except when it comes to the New York State Department of Taxation).

So, YES. I KNOW that Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States. Despite the fact that they speak Spanish, and field their own team in the World Baseball Classic and Olympic games. I know. You are right. And you are denser than depleted uranium.
