I had an uncle (widower) with Alzheimer’s/dementia & his kids had to put him in a facility. He was lonely & looking for a girlfriend & there were plenty of women looking for a boyfriend. Spending time together & holding hands wasn’t a problem, but he and one particular woman decided they were getting married. Both families objected and neither my uncle or the woman were in any mental state to make those sorts of decisions. They could not be reasoned with so the woman finally had to be moved to another unit. We figured my uncle would be heartbroken - he mentioned her a few times, but there were plenty of other women wanting to keep him company so he wasn’t lonely for long. He was a sweet guy - fortunately that did not change with the mental changes due to the Alzheimer’s/dementia. Very sad to see him decline and finally pass on.
Reminds me of a little poem my Daddy used to recite:
These backhouse artists when they die,
Deserve erected to the sky,
In memory of their clever wit,
A towering monument made of $#*+
So sorry to hear. Horrible disease.
The reason I was told why the project was concieved was that they wanted to establish a need for a room to be mandated for every nursing home in the state of Texas whereby two people could go in and have sex. Plus, they wanted to find out how many homosexuals there were.
After reading through all of the questionnaires, we found only one homosexual and he refused to finish the sexual part of the questionnaire so he was removed from the study. So, statistically they found NO homosexuals.
But the most surprising finding was that over 96% of the women said that their sex lives died when their husbands did.
And as a result of their findings they could not establish a need for a room to be mandated whereby two people could go into a specially prepared room complete with a stereo system and drinks and lounging robes and whatever the hell else they thought the old people would need in order to pleasure themselves.
We did bump into one nursing home whose head nurse hired nurse aides who would "service" the men and got the men to pay for their "servicing" for $25 from their Social Security checks.
But my point is - people in nursing homes are generally TOO SICK to even be concerned about their sexual needs. The women don't think about it and the men take care of it themselves if they are so disposed.
I did this work when "The Golden Girls" were first being broadcast. I hated the show and still can't watch reruns. This Norman Lear thing will be just as awful. It will end up as Lear's sexual fantasy par excellence.
Now, if he wanted to do a show about people in retirement communities - that is a different story. Yeah, they may be all sexed up. But not people in nursing homes.
Gay State Conservative wrote: “My Dad suffered from a brain disorder similar to Altzheimers and,as he deteriorated,we were forced to place him in a nursing home.Given that the female to male ratio there was about 10 to 1 my Dad was quite popular in the year or so he was there (he died of chronic lung disease).”
I visited the home where my Dad stayed at lunch time. The home had fixed seating and arranged for at least one male be seated at each table who was mentally capable of carrying on a conversation. Dad was the only man seated with six women.
Dad finished his cake. One of the women said: “They give us so much to eat here. Would you like my cake?” Two other women immediately jumped in with “He ate your cake yesterday. He’s having mine today.” Dad just smiled and ate all the cake.
“His friend replies, Ill have the soup.”
Now that thar is funny!
Sex jokes told by the elderly. This is what passes for comedy nowadays.
And given that they are elderly, look for Viagra jokes, jokes about not needing birth control, and all sorts of other hilarity..........
Well I won’t be watching. Count me out.
Will the title of the show be “Depends”?

Very common. Many families object to nursing home romances. Usually involves inheritances.
I’ve heard unsubstantiated rumors of ladies dressed in scrubs or pose as family members who show up at elder homes to service the men. Well paid.
I thought Carroll O’Connor was dead.
Heh

Yup.
Ya think ole Learing Norman will get any sexual harassment claims made against him or is he only going to use real nursing home residents, just so they don’t tell on him?
Norman Lear always interested in whatever can get him the most attention, and also whatever takes a jab at the Christian population.
Similarly, in the movie “Wall Street,” Gordon Gekko is written as a villain, but to Michael Douglas’s chagrin, people come to him remembering “Greed is good,” and agreeing with Gekko’s underlying sentiments.
The sex jokes and innuendo in the context of the old and feeble was about as offputting as you might imagine.
Barely passable for Charlie Sheen to talk like that. Revulsion when Lear did.
There was an upstanding citizen (i.e., “rich guy”) in a small town we lived in that was packed off to a distant residential facility because he was starting to embarrass his kids with his suggestiveness and exhibitionism. Despite the distance, most people in town managed to keep abreast (!) of his doings. Sadly, he slowly succumbed to full-blown dementia and the stories about his behavior became tragic, even when they were also occasionally humorous.
Hasn’t this already been done? PBS, “Waiting for God”
Ah! The head nurse is still operating.
.
“Sex in Nursing Home” is not so far fetched!
My Father was in a convalescent hospital when he was 89, recovering from a hip fracture, and from what the staff told me he was hitting on just about every nurse in the place.
The drive stays alive!
