Former Tennessee Hall of Fame football coach Phillip Fulmer is taking over athletic director responsibilities at the school, the university announced Friday.
Tennessee chancellor Beverly Davenport announced Fulmer's appointment as acting athletic director, but sources told ESPN that Fulmer will get a two-year contract for the job.

Majors had a heart attack and Fulmer took over as interim head coach...
Tennessee terrible that season .They were something like 2-4 when Fulmer took over...They immediately won two games everyone expected them to lose....
Majors didn’t like that and took the team back over against his doctor’s wishes...
They went right back to mediocrity and at the end of the season, he was let go and Fulmer was hired...

Majors was an ass.. I was coaching at a small college near Knoxville and was friends with Steve Marshall (now NY Jets line coach) and Greg Gibson, son of Vince Gibson, former Tulane HC...They were both coaching at Tennessee at that time...
I was in their office one day and Majors screamed down the hall to Cotton Jackson, the offensive coordinator, to get his filthy f*cking azz in his office right now!!!!
Marshall and Gibson just looked at me and shhok their heads...Marshall said, “Here we go again...”
They said it was like that almost every day in the office...No one like Majors...
Frank Emmanual, former Tennessee linebacker and All America, was coaching linebackers and Majors once called him an SOB...Emmanual picked Majors up and slammed him against the wall and told him if he ever called him that again, he’d kick the h*ll outta him...
As I recall when Tennessee canned Fulmer as head Coach it was none too graciously.
Fulmer will be a great AD. Now hire Tee Martin as assistant coach for 3 years and then move him to head coach.
I don’t feel one bit sorry for those arrogant hillbillies.
