These bans are based on a big lie. That the bags were single use. I always used mine 4-6 times. In CAL you can now buy thicker bags for 10 cents. So you pay the state money and get a bag which is less biodegradable. It’s just a boondoggle to increase tax revenue.
The state does not get the money. The retailer collects and keeps the 10 cents to pay for the bags. It is not a tax.
Actually, the law was put forth in 2 parts. Part 1 banned the bags. Part 2 gave the money to the state for certain reasons (can’t remember them). Anyway, Part 1 passed but Part 2 didn’t so the stores themselves get to keep all the money from the bags they sell.
Most people don’t know that.
