He was pretty low key about it. The "marriage" to his longtime "boyfriend" was probably the one deviation from that.

I can respect that. Nabors kept his homosexuality rather quiet. Sherman Hensley did his also. Charles Nelson Reilly was of course flamboyant about his but he never demanded respect for it.

There is a considerable difference between homosexuality as a personal choice - however self-destructive it is - and trying to force others to "accept" that lifestyle through brute antagonism and weight of regulation under penalty of litigation.
